and if you were a girl..... I'm that kind of people : shy with troubles....

Ok, you mixed it up: I was talking about how a country like Switzerland might be as a person. If you want to talk about you, let us know what you would be like as a country...

Flat like the Netherlands or dry like Namibia?

Schwiiz is very close to the German word Schwitz or Schwitzen, or Schweiz similar to Schweiss.

So perhaps Switzerland is Sweaty??

That sounds exactly like the type of people I would want to meet, shy people with troubles..
Nothing wrong with that, although it does depend on what troubles..

Speed dating is almighty popular amongst expats back home, who don't learn the local lingo. Those who do, usually just go to gigs, events, pot lucks, families take you in as an orphan, kinda, colleagues adopt you, you get hooked up with somebody before you even know it..I guess speed-dating as an icebreaker is a lot more appreciated in cultures that are more reserved and people are too shy to just walk up and talk.

What happened to the romantic idea of just running into somebody, by pure chance..

...Really is it too much to ask for a guy, 27-38, good looking, financially stable, well educated, taller than 5ft 8", dark hair, blue eyes, active, tanned skin, good dancer, has a chalet in the mountains, good sense of humour, caring, likes to travel, a bit of an extrovert, probably a bit arrogant, owns his own house, has a dog, has a boat on Zurich lake, who speaks more than 2 languages?? - honestly i dont think I ask for much
Looking for a Banker, much? Oh no, you can't be. You wanted someone who can dance and has a GSOH.

it has nothing to do with religion. Church (or any other organized social activity that is not based on meeting the opposite sex) gives people a neutral platform to interact without pretenses...
Interesting supposition that other social intercourse is pretence. Some of us take it quite sensibly, with or without the delights of Bachus. Personally, finding someone loitering with questionable intent at a religious social seems a curious angle, unless you're into Mumsy love.

"And what did he do next?"
"He kissed me, Father."
"And where did he kiss you?"
"At the main station, Father..."

At speed dating? Nope - he got snapped up long ago. Wake up and smell the coffee.

So a friend of mine proposed we try speed dating! My first thought 'Ahhhh - no way!!' however after thinking about it a little bit I am considering it.

I have never tried anything like that before, but as its coming up to 2 years of being single maybe its time to try some new things!

Just wondering what you guys thought!
Go for it. Why listen to a bunch of people on the web say whether or not they would personally do it? Many of us/them are married and will never get off with a different person for the rest of our/their entire lives. You've been single for ages - go on, give it a try, and you'll know whether YOU found it fun or not.

You only live once.

Re: Speed-dating - thoughts?

At last, some real science to determine the effectiveness of speed-dating:

From: "From dating to mating and relating: Predictors of initial and long-term outcomes of speed-dating in a community sample" from European Journal of Personality

Quote:
The chance for mating with a speed-dating partner was 6%, and was increased by men's short-term mating interest; the chance for relating was 4%, and was increased by women's long-term mating interest.
Reviewed on this blog http://www.bakadesuyo.com/whats-the-...-sex-or-have-a

Interestingly, the conclusions suggest that the only factor for men in selecting a potential partner was physical attractiveness.
Also that men get more selective with age, while women get less selective.
Which kinda makes sense. If women are only being selected on their looks and their looks fade with age, they can't afford to be so picky as they get older. On the other hand, men generally increase in social status as they age so can afford to be more picky as they get older.

Also, a good point Dan But yes I think 'that' person does exist here in Switzerland - or at least i very much hope so as I have no intention of leaving here any time soon but I take your point supermarket browsing it is!!
