Even if I live in a fabulous place, I would prefer to have again my own flat and live my own life without being *guided* by the presence of my mum.

Hopefully she will go next month in Spain for a few months.

I understand the cleaning before anyone comes to your house thing, I just wouldn't get up in the morning to do it. Our cleaning person just doesn't clean where he has to move stuff to get at it. And every Tuesday evening I try to get it into the boys' pretty little heads that they have to clear the sink area so the sink gets cleaned. Seems to be a highly complex concept...

And sorry to get all party-pooperly analytical about all this, but I totally get slightly tidying up before the cleaning lady comes. You have to give her the impression that you're hiring her because you simply don't have the time, not because you're a lazy slob. I would see it as a necessity from a point of view of 1) paranoia and 2) balance of power.

1) Being afraid the cleaning lady might possibly steal something one day, it's only logical to not give her the impression that you're completely unaware and don't care about what's happening in your pad. So you have to let her know that you're still aware where everything is and would notice if it's missing, and that you're just too busy to do it yourself.

2) Which leads into balance of power. You can't let her know that you rely on her too much. She's there to do the time consuming dirty work. If she finds herself doing things like picking cans and clothes off the floor, you'll seem completely helpless. You must always give the impression that she's helping you out, not running your life like your mother. It will build mutual respect (as will the fact that she doesn't think that you're a complete slob).

I do it all for green blobbies dear... what can I tell ya... I'm hooked and I need a fix baddddddddddddddd.

I don't clean the house before the cleaner comes but I put EVERYTHING away so she can CLEAN the house whithin the 3 hours I pay her. If the place is a mess it's gonna take her longer to clean and I can't afford to pay her more hours.

And indeed, I don't want her to be telling other people that my place is a mess !!!! They are GOSSIPQUEENS

I've edited heavily your quote above (forgive me) but I just wanted to take this moment to point out we ARE NOT complete slobs but as we had two "events" this week... well...I guess the place was a tiny bit more cluttered than usual
