HEC Lausanne good school?

Hi all,
I am considering applying to HEC Lausanne to do a masters in management, but I'm not sure what the reputation of that school is here in Switzerland. If anyone has attended the school or know about it, I'd like to know what you think about the school, level of difficulty, the professors, the support system, alumni network, job prospects, whatever your opinion is. Thanks!

Hey Tuxedo,

I have never been personally but a lot of the professors here (I'm at UNIGE) work there too and have nothing but nice things to day.

FWIW, The University of Neuchatel has english master's buisness programs too, and they are wayyyyyyy cheaper. Yes, there is a commute, but the difference was quite astonishing (700 CHF per year vs. 15,000 or whatever HEC is..)

Good luck!

I would opt for Uni Neuch, too. Not really sure how to put a finger on it, but so far I consider the Unies to be better (at least the courses I took) than Hautes Ecoles.

HEC Lausanne is part of UNIL, and with St Gallen HEC is meant to be best in the country.

HEC Lausanne is part of UNIL which is also shockingly about 600 CHF per semester.

You probably confuse it with IMD.

Re: HEC Lausanne good school?

Well, depends what program you want to follow.
EMBA at HEC-Lausanne is 30K + Field trip costs.

Tuxedo, I'm thinking of applying for EMBA.
For the moment all my information comes from their website.
Will let you know if I find out more.

What I see here is unbelievable... You've got a lot of liars around here. I'm in HEC Lausanne, in BSc in Economics. HEC Lausanne is a part of University of Lausanne (UNIL). Fees are consequently around 550CHF per semester and NOT MORE!

The Master of Science in Management at HEC Lausanne is ranked 19 in the world by the Financial Time: you certainly need to come here in HEC Lausanne to improve your talent if you want a very good school of Business in a wonderful environment.

The professors are really good here, they always care about you, especially in Master class. It's a sort of big family. If you want more informations, please be free to ask!

He said that he wants to do a "Master in Management" (MSc in Management) not an EMBA...

Re: HEC Lausanne good school?

Hi Giselle/Skygo,

I also applied for the MscM class starting in September. When did you guys get your offer? I still havent heard from them..I applied back in February.
Seems to be a really slow process to me. What was your experience?

It says on HEC's website that it is 550 francs per semester. Its a public university so they aren't going to charge you as much as other top European unis.

Just out of curiousity, what did you guys do as a minor/undergrad degree?

Cheers guys!

Re: HEC Lausanne good school?

Hi Valras,

I got my acceptance letter in 6 June. They will only charge the 550 CHF per semester for the program, however the average monthly expense is about 2000 CHF (housing is quiet expensive). I have done BSc in Economics.

Cheers!!

Re: HEC Lausanne good school?

@Giselle, I recently spoke to a friend who did an MscM at HEC Lausanne and he said the city was great. Its expensive but apparently HEC's classes are very international in terms of students and he said it was a great experience. And he didn't mention anything about old people haha

Saludos!

Re: HEC Lausanne good school?

I am looking at the academic calendar (here's link http://www.unil.ch/central/page4804_en.html ) and it says there is a Welcome week September 9 to the 13th, the 13th being Welcome Day for new students. Does anyone know what goes on during Welcome Week and if it's beneficial to go?

I was going to do a reunion trip with some old friends during those dates exactly and am not sure whether to do the Welcome Week for the sake of my education or go on this long overdue reunion trip.

a.k.a "freshers week". Just a good excuse to drink to excess!

Here's another world league table for universities. The Guardian is very reliable when it comes to education:
