How hard it is the access the EPFL?

Hello

First of all I would like to introduce myself Iam from Colombia but I also have the european citizenship, Well the italian one , and i've masterded the lenguage. im just out of highschool and i would like to study Environmental engenieering.

Given that i already speak spanish and italian i think it could be easy to learn french , if i go to a french speaking zone of couse. I have doubts if i should study in switzeland and more specificly at the EPFL cause i dont know how hard it could be and which are the policies in those countries and universities about foreigner students.

I would appreciate an answer

Thank you

University policies towards new foreign students are pretty lax, you'll find more resistance from government bureaucracy. But since your EU already, it shouldn't be too hard.

As for EPFL, at least when I looked into classes there and elsewhere in the French region, they required a level of french equivalent to at least B2. If you have Italian and Spanish, it'd still probably take at least half a year to get to that level. (I know French/some Spanish and I'm learning Italian right now, so I can say the languages are very similar). You'd have to check with the Uni to see what they require.

Have you read through EPFL's website? You might start here, being sure to check into the admissions requirements for students from Columbia via this page. Then you can address your questions directly via the Student Help Desk.

EPFL is a very challenging academic environment. A significant percentage of students do not make it through the 1st year, so you will need to be prepared to work very hard.

Be sure your language skills are sufficient for the level you will actually need in the classroom, rather than just reaching the B2 level. I have been in French classes with students from UNIL and EPFL who had B2 level French but it was not enough for them to be able to keep up academically. They were taking a break from school to improve French before continuing working towards their degrees.
