From international school to local school

We may be moving to Lausanne this summer and until now my daughters have always gone to international schools but won't be anymore.

Has anyone had this experience before and if so I would love to have your advice, comments.

They are 7, 9 and 11 years old.

My husband is French so they all speak french. I'm just worried/anxious about the chance from all the benefits and openness of international schools to going local...

Thank you,

Re: From international school to local school

I switched from an international school to a local school in grade 10 after having been in international schools all my life. I didn't have a lot of issues, although it was tough on a social level, but I think switching schools in grade 10 is tough on a social level in any case. Younger kids should have almost no issues, especially if there is no language barrier. The only issues I really had was relating to peers that had never been outside their own country, they were not as mature as I was.

Re: From international school to local school

If you look at some similar threads, the 11 year old will likely have quite a few issues, as at that age, it is the years of streaming in Vaud. If coming from a private school, they normally have to take a test and are streamed accordingly. If moving to CH from abroad, not sure if they give you extra time to do this or not. A lot will depend on his/her academic level of French, and also German. In VD, French, Maths, and German are the 3 pillars used for the streaming. I think you will find the culture of CH local schools very different from international schools.
