Studying medicine

Does anyone know, is it possible to study medicine in Switzerland without swiss school leaving-certificate?

Yes, I've looked up some info-pages about studying medicine in Switzerland but they are all quite vague(e.g. "students with foreign qualifications will only be accepted to the program if they have a residence permit approved by the UZH").

If someone knows the prerequisites(residence permit? entrance exam? language test?) for medicine programs, I'd be obliged.

Re: Studying medicine

I'm not quite sure what your question is because I don't know if you're Swiss or not. But apart from special cases, usually international students can't study medicine here. This is from the CRUS website:

"Exceptions are study programmes in medicine (human medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine) and chiropractic as well as in human movement and sports sciences. There may be entrance examinations to the study programmes in medicine and partly in human movement and sports sciences depending on the number of applicants for admission in any given year. The limited number of openings is the reason why international students, apart from some special cases, are not admitted to the study programmes in medicine."

The CRUS site also has info on entrance requirements, costs, etc.

Re: Studying medicine

If I remember rightly Swiss medicine courses are very hard to get into as there are not many places and way over applied for. Your German/French would need to be pretty damn good too I expect. Study in the UK... no tuition fees for Medicine (if you are EU/Swiss resident).

Re: Studying medicine

An ex-student of mine, although Swiss, went to school in Norway and did the IB Diploma. He is now finishing his medical studies at Fribourg, so it not impossible.

Re: Studying medicine

If you're resident here it's different though. Have a look at the special cases link as it gives a list (in German/French only) of foreigners who are considered the same as Swiss nationals when applying. It's people outside of Switzerland wanting to come in and study medicine that have more problems getting accepted.
