CFA recognition in Switzerland

Hi Everybody,

Thank you for reading me

I have to questions I would like to ask.

1)
I would like to know how respected / useful (in order to get a job) is the CFA qualification in Switzerland in the following industries:
- Investment banking
- Private banking
- Insurance
- Commodities industries

2)
Do you think that passing the CFA level 1 by the end of the master degree would help in getting a job in Switzerland in IB, PB or the commodities industry?

Thank you very much !

Looking forward to your feedbacks

1. Yes, it is often a sought after qualification for roles in the industry sectors you have listed.

2. It would help. However, German/French language skills, predominantly French given you stated location, are often desired along with the qualification.

Re: CFA recognition in Switzerland

Well yes CFA is a known qualification in financial circles here, but I doubt very much it was instrumental in getting most people their first job in the financial sector. It is more something they did after landing the job!

I would suggest that you concentrate on getting the best grades you can on your masters rather than spreading yourself too thin and ending up with a grade that does not reflect you abilities. Sometimes more is not better, it's just more!

Also it is worth remembering that most people in the financial sector do not hold this qualification, instead they come from economics, maths, accounting, MBA, law and even some from other areas not often associated with investment or banking. The important point is that their studies demonstrated their capabilities.

Re: CFA recognition in Switzerland

Hi Jim2007,

Thanks a lot for your reply!

Initially I was convinced it was a big plus. But now, after having researched a bit the internet, I start to doubt of the actual usefulness of passing the first level while being a student. On top of that, as you said, I agree that getting lower grands in the masters due to the study hours spent on the CFA would be a shame...

Thanks !
