MBA at the Robert Kennedy College (ZH)?

I have seen an advertisement at the Zurich airport about an online MBA sponsored by the University of Cumbria in exclusive partnership with Robert Kennedy College.

Price is very reasonable and perfect for me as I work long hours so I do not have the opportunity to take some time off for a MBA.
However, i have some doubts about the delivery method (mostly online via OnlineCampus ) and this Robert Kennedy College that I have never heard of before.... Also, the Univerisity of Cumbria is not exactly Oxford isn't it?

So anyone has had any experience with these 2 institutions? any advice?
thanks

I don't have experience with them but their advertisements gave me a bit of an odd feeling of scam to be honest.

Here some threads about them:

that degree wouldn't be top of my list if you wanted to get a good job out of it. Go for the Open University if you can! Good luck!

Re: MBA at the Robert Kennedy College (ZH)?

I did the short version of the MBA once and wasn´t excited about the material etc. I am now doing one with a university in Edinburgh and am much more happy with the material!

Re: MBA at the Robert Kennedy College (ZH)?

Question depends on what your motives are for getting an MBA. Is it for it to look good and to help get a new job? If so, then the more respected the institutions the better. However, be warned that doing an MBA does not guarantee you'll get better offers, companies are increasingly seeing MBA grads, so they look at where you went and also at your results. The bigger residential MBAs are more expensive because they have the better connections with industry and reputed profs. They will also attract higher calibre people with more difficult entry, thus ensuring overall higher quality.

Those targeting Online MBA's will get roughly the same quality information, but will obviously miss out on top profs and top calibre cohort (which is the main price tag). If you are only striving to improve your knowledge level, online is the way to go.

Re: MBA at the Robert Kennedy College (ZH)?

The only distance/online MBA atm that I know that is worth its money is the one at OU and maybe the one at Uni London (which generally has a ton of good online degree programs).

A one-year online MBA can't possibly be worth much. I think online degrees are a good thing especially for full-time professionals, but you have to be super careful when choosing one. And within the MBA field, there's some 4000-5000 MBA programs out there, of which less than 5% are actually worth something. The MBA is not a protected title and any kind of institution may claim to offer an MBA program with often very limited quality.

Switzerland has really only one very good MBA program and that is the one at IMD, plus an okay one at the University of St Gallen (their MSc/MA degrees are top-notch, the MBA is OK). Also, be careful about so-called MBAs at especially FHs, which are usually not MBAs, but just an MAS.

Hi,
If you don't want to spend to much money (e.g. St.Gallen), the University of Liverpool may be a good trade-off...

Good accreditation, price, etc.. and seems to be well-suited to do it part-time...

Kind regards,
Dario

Re: MBA at the Robert Kennedy College (ZH)?

The business school to target depends on why you need an MBA for, and on your background.
If you are a professional and you plan to leapfrog in your company, then any MBA giving you solid academics is good enough. Your employer knows you already, so you don't necessarily need a top brand to push you forward.
The discussion is a bit different if you are a triple-jumper (you are aiming at changing country, industry and occupation at the same time). In that case, I would go for a top school, and the one to choose depends on where you want to end up - in terms of geography and business. In any case, for this strategy you need a decent GMAT score (700+ ideally) and a solid application.
Just PM me if you want more information.

Just like Mr Connery have I done mine at the University of Liverpool and can vouch for the academic standards. It's one of the largest online schools and since my degree is exactly the same as the onsite one did I never had any questions on it... quite the opposite, hiring managers are impressed if you can do a serious education next to a job. I even went to some alumni drink, no difference between online and onsite students either.

Very honestly: I never really had an issue to figure out which school offered quality and which one did not. Just like everything else - if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If your course takes half the time than a real one would it can only be crap, if your school has no accreditation and nobody outside their own website has ever heard of them... well, you get what you pay for.
I'd take all rankings with a huge pinch of salt, but just looking at the background of a school shows you if it is a serious education institute or somebodies rather profit oriented business... Most "Swiss" private schools outside the official universities were rather dodgy and you can find a ton of advice online. Students of a rather expensive school on lake Zurich have once even been warned by a German minister that carrying their title within most EU countries would be illegal (The term MBA is not protected in CH while in most other countries a school has to meet certain criterias to be allowed to hand it out... that says it all, really...)

Re: MBA at the Robert Kennedy College (ZH)?

I am about to start one, The degrees are awarded from their partner university, in the case of the one I am studying, the University of Salford that is a pretty well respected institution.

They act as a hybrid of distance learning partner for the university and a remote learning student organisation, very much a partner to the university itself.

I will let you know how it goes.

Re: MBA at the Robert Kennedy College (ZH)?

Hi,

Im not sure how active this thread is now, but I just came across it and I actually got my MBA through them, so I figured I could give me 5 cents worth.

The previous poster is correct, the degrees are awarded through their partner universities - i.e. University of Cumbria for the MBA. The Robert Kennedy college (based in Zurich) is an intermediary and they basically offer the online portal to your tutors, who are not necessarily at the university itself but can be from other institutions. For my marketing course I had a guy who was the owner of a marketing firm in California, who I checked out thoroughly, and he's a very active professional in that field; the same goes for the Accounting tutor who was working for a very well known Fund company in Switzerland.

I also felt a little weird about signing up, but it was the only MBA I could afford at the time. I visited the RKC in Zurich to do some diligence and was a little weirded out it existed in a tiny office in a huge building in the middle of an industrial estate (yeah, exactly) but the University of Cumbria definitely exists (its actually very pretty, all the more so since no one has heard of it) and the MBA through them is actually a legitimate course.

They also do around 8 other courses, e.g. MSC in Project Management, and it is said that the online degree is exactly the same as that obtained by a regular day student.

Anyway, I hope that helps. The main issue is that with an MBA, you get what you pay for and I had a couple of hundred spare, I would have gone to Harvard - or a more affordable IMD but that was still out of my pocket range unfortunately.

Personally, the course was really worth it but I definitely missed the networking aspect that a traditional course can offer, especially one at a more reputable known business school. All in all, my MBA took my 3 years (part time) and I really enjoyed the experience.

Hope that helps someone, if anyone wants any more info, just drop me a message -

M
