Kinder/Nursery options for 3 year old in Unteraegeri old town

Hi,

There is a chance we may move to Unteraegeri in the old town area, still not clear where but somewhere on Hofnerstrasse.
I have a 5 year old and 3 year old and looking at school options. Are we close to any schools or how do they assign schools. Will my 5 year old be able to walk to local kindergarten school. Also as my daughter will finish school at 1145 or so.. what do you with the kids after this? Do you know of the programs and cost for her to stay longer until maybe 3pm?

As for my son who is 3, I expect it will be a private kindergarten or other option. Does anyone have information on what they do with 3 year olds i.e kindergarten, spielgruppe etc. Is it possible he can be occupied somewhere for at least 5 mornings a week and a few afternoons or can I find something they can do together with my daughter.

Any information is highly appreciated or if you live in the area, even better!

Thanks!

Re: Kinder/Nursery options for 3 year old in Unteraegeri old town

As for the child in Kindergarten, she can join a Mittagstisch (lunch table) and have after school care at a Kinderbetreuung (or Hort, for short). I am in Zurich, so I can't provide any specifics for Kanton Zug. It looks like both are provided through the school (link below). Looks like Unteraegeri is pretty small-the schools will be assigned depending on where you live (they're supposed to be walking distance for Kindergarteners), but the after school care and lunch table may not be in the same Kindergarten.

For the 3 year old, you can either pay for Kinderkrippe or attend a Spielgruppe. I can't read the German well enough, but it looks like . This would be separate from the Kindergarten. You'll find lots of threads about the terrible costs of the Krippe. Looks like yours will cost around 2700 per month for full time (130 per day x 5 days/week x 4.2 weeks/month). It will be prorated, but the final cost will depend on whether you have lunch included.

Site listing the Kinderkrippen:

Site for the school, with information about the lunch table:

Re: Kinder/Nursery options for 3 year old in Unteraegeri old town

Dear swiss_in_training,

Thanks a lot for the quick and detailed response!

I am still not yet in Switzerland and will not be until January. Unfortunately this information is not so clear in the websites. I have read that there are all these types of groups for 3+ years (forest, playgroup etc) but I cannot find even one online with information of where, what, cost etc?

I am hoping a parent who lives in Unteraegeri also sees this post and comments on their experience to help me figure it out.

Thanks again!

Re: Kinder/Nursery options for 3 year old in Unteraegeri old town

I agree that the websites are not terribly clear. Sorry if my previous links weren't the best:

As for costs, the Kinderkrippen costs are listed here:
http://www.unteraegeri.ch/de/bildung...rflebenkrippe/

The English home page for the Krippe is here:
http://www.wichtelhuus.ch/english/home/index.html

I couldn't find a Waldkrippe in your area, but that might be something that you'd only hear about from a local.

The costs, etc. for the Mittagstisch and Hort are at the bottom of the other Web page (but only in German).

If you have questions, I'd contact the people listed in the web pages-they'll know about other options and will be able to give you more detailed information regarding costs. People here are pretty good about providing information by email or the phone, even if your German is as terrible as mine is (which is pretty terrible). Good luck!

I'll be in a similar situation as I also have a 5/almost 6 yr old and a 3 year old, and we are also moving in January. We are moving to Basel. In a few weeks we are going over to visit the schools, I have no idea what to expect!

Here is a link to the Spielgruppen for 3-6 or 3-5 year olds in Unteraegerli
http://www.unteraegeri.ch/de/bildung.../spielgruppen/

Mariachäferli e.g. takes kids on two mornings per week and costs 1300 CHF for ten months. Parents need to provide accident insurance for their children.

There is also a state-owned daycare that is well-managed and has some very lovely employees. Some can even speak excellent English but their philosophy is to speak as much Swiss German to help those children integrate into the local culture.
