Executive MBA - experience with applications at IMD

Hi there,

I did read thru some of the MBA threads here, but could not find any current/first hand experience re IMD in Lausanne.

My husband is currently discussing his transfer, and the company offers him to do an executive MBA (it has to be a Swiss school so the options are somewhat limited...) on top. So obviously looking at the rankings, IMD comes out first and then maybe St Gallen. It should be a school with some international shine.

We are just starting to look into more details, but I was wondering if there are any alumni or current students of the EMBA at IMD. Husband fits the bill of the usual qualifications but admission seems competitive, of course, so any insights would be appreciated...

Thanks!

T

Is he planning on commuting from Zurich to Lausanne every day? Because it's over 2 hours one way, compared to over an hour to St. Gallen.

Re: Executive MBA - experience with applications at IMD

As I understand the executive programm at IMD it is 9 weeks of attendance in weekly blocks, so he would of course be staying in Lausanne during the presence learning phases.

I agree that SG would be easier logistics-wise because he could theoretically commute, but I don't think this should be a deciding factor (apart from the fact that St Gallen is cheaper than IMD, but I think St. Gallen has a very good rep in German-speaking countries, IMD maybe more so internationally). Right now, IMD would be the first choice, based on the prelim info we gathered, but I think he will wind up applying for both eventually.

What's his industry? St. Gallen tends to be more finance focused, IMD is know for industries other than consulting and finance. IMD has much more international recognition than St Gallen.

I almost sure that admission at the EMBA on both places are not that competitive... It will be down to your husband work experience.

Re: Executive MBA - experience with applications at IMD

Capo, thanks for this Info! The industry is neither consulting nor finance (nor planning to go there)...and will never be

I don't wanna go into too much detail here b/c nothing is signed yet, but his work experience and educational background should be sufficient just looking at the blank criteria they post on their websites.

Realistically, I am thinking the business schools are in it for the business, so unless you submit a completely off the charts application, and do well in the interview, they should take you because they are after your money...

Anyways, have a nice one!

Re: Executive MBA - experience with applications at IMD

Dear All, I saw this post and instead of posting another thread I just wanted to ask here if anyone can suggest an executive MBA in Zurich, which I can attend during weekends. And I think since its weekends, I can travel up to 1/1,5 hrs to cities around as well. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks
