Good public schools in Geneva

Does anyone know how to find out where good public schools are. Or are they all pretty good. We are willing to move if there is any reliable info on this. We are currently living in Eaux-Vives but have heard nothing about the quality of the public schools here. Somebody told us the Versoix has better ones but there seems to be no solid consensus. We cannot afford fee-paying ones so we are keen to find a good school for our 3 year old when the time comes including sport ect as well as academically.

You realize that you cannot choose a school yourself? It will be "allocated" to you according to where you live.

Obviously unless it is a private school (with the according fees)

The public school in Bellevue is excellent with great facilities.

The commune is home to Richemont and the school's had substantial investment and big extension in recent years.

Re: Good public schools in Geneva

From personal experience Carouge is 'good', so apparently is nearby Troinex.

This is another one of those 'how long is a piece of string' questions though. Without knowing where your workbase is (so where practically you need to live), and how old your children are it's difficult to know which areas we can recommend you start apartment/house hunting. After you've moved into an area the children will then be allocated school places in whichever local school has space.

Re: Good public schools in Geneva

As a fellow Brit I can see that prospective expats think that the "league table" thing you get in the UK schools applies elsewhere but, at least in Switzerland's case, it doesn't.

The schools are pretty much all the same in standard (which is pretty good). Teachers are well paid and schools are well funded and equipped. Language support is given readily to expat kids and there is mandatory sport classes with mandatory swimming from the 1st grade.

Team sports, however, normally are organised outside of school, as well as other extra-curricular activities which aren't directly involved with, well, the curriculum.

My son is in the Swiss school system (albeit on the German speaking side) but we are really happy with how things are turning out.
