So happy with our school for our ADHD child

Wanting to post here for anyone searching for a school willing to work with a child with severe ADHD. We recently moved here from the states (where we never found a good educational fit) and have had an incredible experience with Foundations for Learning and ICS. Foundations for Learning works with ICS to keep my son's Learning and behavior on track. Together the two schools make a great team and have already had a huge impact on my child's life (in three months.)

Anyone with questions, feel free to send me a message--

Perhaps have a look at what the subject matter concerns before wasting your time to write such a ridiculously tasteless, sarcastic, waste of time comment.

Furthermore, and again because of the subject matter, perhaps have the courtesy to take the time to look at what FFL is (I have never heard of them simply because my child does not suffer from this problem)...I took the time and this is what it states about FFL..."Foundations for Learning was established...in 2009 (yes...7 years ago) as a non-profit foundation to provide educational support to families in the Zurich area with English-speaking children, or children who are learning in the English language"

It seems obvious that the parent who initially posted this, and going by his bad experience in the US, is so happy to have finally found somewhere where their darling child has flourished better then before...that they would just like to inform us and perhaps offer an extending hand to newly arrived parents with a child suffering the same problem..it's called community spirit and support!

"ataves" I believed Englishforum was to help and inform...

Right ok, that's me...off ma horse noo

Stick around here for a couple of years and you will understand porsch1909's comment.
When someone, especially someone new or a member with few previous posts, starts two threads (and adds to a third) praising a person, an institution or a firm to this extent, most 'old hands' question the validity of the information. Just question it. Nothing more.

I don't believe the OP is a spammer. FFL have an excellent reputation, and I really cannot imagine them - or any of their representatives - doing anything so crass.

Re: So happy with our school for our ADHD child

Thanks DB. Good to have confirmation from someone we know that FFL is doing sterling work.
Suspicion is caused by having a second new thread about the school. I can be very enthusiastic too but these just seem a bit much.

Re: So happy with our school for our ADHD child

Wow. Very interesting the questioning about the validity of my post(s). Last time I checked, not many parents (or any adults) were out there pedaling support for special needs kids.

I'm sorry that I haven't had time to post earlier than today, but I was spending the last three months learning how to live in a new country and getting my three children adjusted to their new school! Also I've been teaching writing workshops for adults. I hope to share these on this forum as well (in the legally appointed place, of course.)

I did post here before moving from the U.S., asking for advice about special needs programs. I didn't get much of a response. In fact, I was told not to move to Zurich! Sigh.

And since I spend most of my time (when not caring for my kids) trying to advocate for the marginalized and empower people to work through hard times ...I figured I would post here about my AMAZING experience with Foundations for Learning for that next parent who is looking for support and unable to find it.

(I do not work for ICS or Foundations for Learning. But if they ever wanted me to, I would jump on board.)

My son is 11, and it has taken us eight years to find a school that works for him. Because of his struggles, he's had a rough battle with depression. Now he is flourishing at a school and I'm thrilled. Call it spam if you like!

I hope this info finds someone in need, not someone looking to make more people feel really isolated...

Re: So happy with our school for our ADHD child

Glad to hear that your child has a good situation, makes all the difference.

This is a tough, cynical, suspicious crowd, though once the dust settles, you will find lots of kind, helpful people.

One small suggestion - change your location in your profile. It still says CT.

Re: So happy with our school for our ADHD child

I'm delighted that you've come on again to tell us more.
I had checked your profile and your posting history before I replied by the way. I usually do. ;-)

As I said before, folk who hang around understand our scepticism.
It has repeatedly happened that posts with extremely positive reports on firms (and schools!) have been written by the owners, sometimes having started several EF profiles to add weight to their comments.

There have been quite a few threads already on the subject of ADHD but maybe not all that many really helpful ones. I suppose that most folk who have children with special needs are far too busy sorting out their lives to repeatedly come on here just to tell a load of uninterested single guys and gals how they are getting on.

Hope things continue to go well for your family and that you will understand our reasoning just as we try to understand yours.

Re: So happy with our school for our ADHD child

Thanks. I understand! If posts aren't authentic, then the whole idea of a forum is lost. However, it is a bit depressing that if a person sounds too positive, she's suspicious

I did not find much helpful info about special needs kids in Zurich or kids with my son's specific needs (severe ADHD, sensory processing disorder, auditory processing...I didn't go into all of that in the original post.)

So you're saying that there are only single people on here? I thought the audience was broader. But good to know.

Not all single by any means but perhaps the singles are those who are less interested! We have everything from aging grannies downwards! Large families, small families, single parents, students, high flyers, low flyers, amusing, irritating, helpful, helpless, you name it, we've got it.

Another point about the lack of response you received when you first wrote, is that looking up loads of information for new members who don't come back on to reply, possibly don't even read the answers, does tend to diminish ones enthusiasm for the work after a few years. Tough on those who would appreciate it but that's forum life.

Nope, it's a very broad audience spectrum : but SEN education is one of those topics that you only really know a lot about if it's personal to you. And, as you'll appreciate, what works for one, might not work for another. Glad it worked out for you.

Join in some other threads when you have time and all will become clear!

My mistake but when someone makes two threads saying the same thing; one gets suspicious.

Congratulations ataves. I have friends with children with different learning dissabilities and it's very hard to find support.
I hope your experience helps other families in similar situations.

Re: So happy with our school for our ADHD child

Hi,

Here are some more resources for parents of children with SENs:

http://allspecialkids.org
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/...l-Kids-CH/info

Hope it's OK to post weblink?!

Really glad to hear that combination FFL and ICS is a great fit, it's not the first time that I have heard this, in fact we sometimes refer parents of children with specific SENs to this combination programme

This is incredibly helpful, thanks a lot for you feedback! I work as school consultant and often get queries from families with special needs children about schooling options but I feel a bit out of my depth in this area, so this information is much appreciated!
