Local school near my work

I have to register my children for the next school year. Unfortunately some neighbors have told me that the school that touches us by area is not good and that its performance is very low. I wonder if it would be possible to enroll my children in the local school that is near my place of work, as it happens in other countries.

I think you should make up your mind: Do you work in Switzerland with a school near by or do you start work in the US in June?

Re: Local school near my work

oops! you are right, thanks. I am leaving after summer, yes. I posted on behalf of a friend who asked to me this question last week and I had no idea what the answer was because my children (still) go to a private one so I don't know the rules that apply.

Re: Local school near my work

Short answer is probably no. Kids go to the nearest school to where they live usually. But your friend should ask at the gemeinde/commune whether it's possible or not.

Yes, true, but may not be able to speak English.

Which in turn might answer the original question.
e.g. I'm not aware of any local schools offering curriculum, or provides support for pupils outside of the German language i.e. Spanish etc.
Maybe others are.

As is becoming usual: Information other than "my friend" is needed

Why do you believe your neighbours? What evidence have they supplied?

Short answer, no. Your kids, or your friends, can only go to their local school, except under exceptional circumstances where everyone, including the other school, agree it is in the child's best interest.
