Schooling in Zurich

Hallo

We are thinking of moving to Zurich from Germany. We have a 13 year old daughter who will be completing Class 7 in German Gymnasium.

She studies in German and also has subjects like English and Latin.
I am looking for guidance on Swiss/Zurich school system, which areas have the better schools and names of schools.

Many thanks in advance.
Vinita

Re: Schooling in Zurich

Not really such a thing here and you don't get a choice of which school your child goes to. It's usually the one nearest to where you live. There's plenty of info in this sticky thread.

And she will need French in addition - which is compulsory in Swiss schools.

With that age and the schooling profile she should transfer to the Langzeitgymnasium. Additionlly to German, English, and Latin she will have French.

In canton Zurich you can choose any of the Gymnasiums:https://mba.zh.ch/internet/bildungsd...elschulen.html

Which is the best? Stupid question, in the end you get the Swiss Matura (if you do not drop out and have good degrees). But Rämibühel has e certain whiff as it is a Langzeitgymnasium only. No plebs which transfer from secondaray school. On the otherhand it offers the two language profiles only.

Please see the list on page 11, which schools offer the Langzeitgymnasium and education profiles:

As you see (if you konw where the places are) the left side of lake Zurich, also called Pfnüssel-Küste or Silver-Coast has no Gymnasium. Those kids will normally use public transport to Zurich and go to one of the Gymnasiums there.

Oh, than even more choice if one wants to be elitist.
PS: I was never in a Gymnasium. I can talk about myself as I wish

Re: Schooling in Zurich

Check with one of the Gymnasiums in Zurich (as listed above) how it works if you move from abroad. Could not find the Information. Usually you will have to sit an entrance exam but I belive this won't be the case here.
