Tutors vary from between CHF 30 per hour for a student to about CHF 60-70 per hour for someone highly qualified and/or attached to a school or learning establishment.

Depending on what accent your kid should have in the end, I'm sure you can get it cheaper.

Re: English teachers

That's a bargain: the school where I learn German charges 80CHF for 45mins for 'Nachhilfe' for kids. And about 120CHF for a lesson.

If you want to pay less, you would need to find a teacher directly and not go via a school.

Good luck!

Where and how can I find such a teacher?

Do a search for "Nachhilfe" and "English" (and/or "Englisch" if you want to cover all bases).

There are usually centrally sourced web pages where you can find a load of tutors in your area.

Re: English teachers

The price can also be influenced by whether student goes to teacher, or teacher travels to student.

There are schools that run English classes. Worked well for my daughter who went every wed pm during term time. Cost 287 a term, or free, as my wife volunteered as a classroom assistant.

Re: English teachers

What do you consider a reasonable price, MM Abdelhafez?

CHF 55/45min is, as others have mentioned, already on the low side in my area - but I have no idea how prices scale up in other places.

You could try the Tutor24 platform:
https://tutor24.ch/en/

You can post a job advertisement, see who responds. Or browse the profiles of those offering tutoring and contact those who look to be good candidates.

Be aware that you will have to pay a membership fee in order to contact tutors, but you can browse gratis initially, a good way to see if there is anyone meeting your needs in your area before paying to join.

Those offering tutoring services range from students or others working a few hours for pin money to degreed and qualified professionals. The fees charged will vary, obviously. Most profiles list the expected rate.

Be aware also that tutoring children is a special skill, and often comes at a premium.

Some of the people on the Tutor24 platform are working independently, some prefer to work as your employee - figuring out social taxes, insurance, etc. falls to the participants.

---

There have been a few threads where members here recommend Skype lessons, where the tutor is in another country - this can be a lower cost option. (Child - online - due diligence goes without saying.) I'm afraid I can't point you to anyone in particular, but if you search EF threads you'll likely find those posts.

All the best...

ETA:

Wait - on your other thread you say you are leaving Switzerland to return to Egypt. How long do you expect to stay in Switzerland? If the need for a tutor is immediate and short term you might run into difficulties hiring here, as this is the holiday period. Have you thought about waiting until you return home - you should be able to find a tutor at much more reasonable prices there.

Thanks for your detailed answer.

Unfortunately I can't wait until I go back to Egypt because my daughter need to do an English exam between Jan/Feb 2019 in order to join the second semester school in Egypt.

I will try to find the Skype lesson. Maybe there is an Egyptian teacher doing it!

Are you looking for private or group lessons? That can also heavily influence the price.

Re: English teachers

you can try tutor24.ch I have used them to find tutors for German for my kids, you can search by location/price per hour/age/gender ect.... you have to pay 60Chf for a couple of months access or you can pay for a year. I have found the website very useful.

I have had a few Tutors that were around 60-70chf per hour and now have one that is 25 per hour and she is amazing (so its not always the more expensive are better)
A lot of the Tutors are students some of the more expensive are teachers.

It all depends on the level you need, for me teaching my kids who are 8,10,12 German, I dont feel the need to spend a lot (50chf+) as the level of German is not that technical or hard (for the tutor) its just re-enforcing what they learning at school and having a little more time to explain things.

A lot of them also offer a free lesson, which I find is important to see how they go with the kids.

*just realised tutor24 was mentioned above, sorry to repeat!

That's not expensive if you want a trained knowledgeable professional to tutor your daughter.

Que?

This just flew by me.

OP, you can bave a regular, certified teacher with substantial teaching experiences for the prices stated in the thread.

Or - you can call a local gymnase, ask for an English dept. and ask if they know a responsible Anglophone student who would practice English with your kid and revise. Works incredibly well, some teens are natural at it. The small age difference helps. You can do a test run and see if the magic is there.
