Daycare centers Zurich - Thoughts?

Hi,

We are looking into the day care service for our son-to-be. We've narrowed it down to Globengarden Schifbau in Zurich and Kids&Co Primetower (Profawo).

Both seem to have similar approach... Globengarden is supposed to have bilingual service for the kids.

Do they really do all the educational program they publish? Days out, music, etc?

Any opinions on these places? Or any other in the Zurich, hardbrucke area?

I think everyone must have realized by my writing above that we're having our first child

Thanks in advance

Re: Daycare centers Zurich - Thoughts?

I don't know these centers specifically but I do know the industry and how it works.

Basically no center can afford to provide any real educational or pedagogical program due to how the system is set up. The only way to manage a center financally within the rules of the canton is to have one or two Praktikantinnen for every teacher with degree. Also the center staff generally do all the cleaning and cooking themselves during the time the center is opened. Again, any other way is not financially viable. So there really will not be enough time or trained staff to do much education.

Further, it is not really a requirement from the overseeing body. This as the Swiss system is generally built on education starting with entry in to 1. Grade. The requirements on daycare centers is focused on size of groups (very small), room size and numbers (large) and access to playground.

So if a center claims they provide true education I would not take such statement too seriously. Ie don't expect too much with regards to this.

Check out kiddieland (near escher-wyss-platz) as well. Heard good review from a colleague.

Re: Daycare centers Zurich - Thoughts?

Do you live near hardbruke or just work? Because 3 years ago I searched for krippe near hardbruke and they were much more expensive compared to the one near my home. Globe garden, schiffbau was not there that time. More or less all krippe have same routine morning arrival period, breakfast, outdoor activity, lunch, sleep/rest, afternoon snacks, indoor/outdoor activity, evening departure period. All krippe are governed by law with regards to ratio of caregivers/children and qualification. You should pay utmost attention to hygiene and food. Good luck.
