Job on TV Station (Video Editor)

Hello, i am Stelios and i live in Greece.
I would like to ask for some information about working on TV stations in Switzerland.

I am acknowledged in video editing (post production editor) with AVID Technology.
I have worked for 3 years in the Greek Public TV and specifically in international news and broadcasting.

Now i’m working on producing in a large television station. Ant1 TV Channel.

http://www.antennaeurope.gr/index.php

http://www.antennaeurope.gr/onair&air=5737

I know the main language in Switzerland is German or French

However, I can speak Greek and English.(i will learn to speak the language while living in Switzerland)
Is it possible to find a job with these qualifications?

Looking forward for your answer
Thanks in advance.

Re: Job on TV Station (Video Editor)

Welcome to the forum.

Have you looked at the jobs and training sections ?

http://www.sf.tv/unternehmen/einzel....avpath=stb/ste

http://www.sf.tv/unternehmen/einzel....avpath=aus/moe

http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/front/jobs.html?cid=77480

http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/front/ab...html?cid=77472

Fluency in German and / or French is expected, and substantiated with a certificate of competency for non-native speakers.

Hi,

Most Editors are freelance, many local companies make videos where the primary launguage is English. You can find work but not a full time job.

I regulary work in Zurich & Geneva as a cameraman, launguage has never been an issue. I have been here since 1994, 90% of my work is in English, I charge more than the locals.

and these days, nothing is going well here!!

fatmanfilms, as a cameraman do you know which program is famous for video editing in Switzerland, as for local companies or for TV Stations.

Thanks for your information

I don't have topo much idea, but camera man is technical i guess so maybe not so important the language issue, editor i would have thought that at least a modicum of understanding of what you are editing could help matters.

The best picture editors cut without the sound, the pictures tell the story....
I look at camerawork as creative rather than technical, if I don't get the right shots the final piece will look poor regardless of what launguage the editor speaks.

Re: Job on TV Station (Video Editor)

As it happens the Kantonpolitzi Zurich were advertising for a cameraman / editor recently. I think the closing date was last week, looking at the jobs section of the Kantonpolitzi website may help you. FWIW the head of the department speaks English & sent me a link to see if I was interested. He knows I speak very little German.
