Considering the bad economic climate around alot of the world, I would think you should consider yourself lucky to still be getting any bonus at all. Many people that were hoping have had theirs withdrawn this year and some have never gotten one.
I'm not lucky, I just worked exceptionally well. I understood that no one else got the bonus in my department.
Just to consolate you even more - I got a pay rise for the next year too. And I'm on a temporary contract, believe it or not

Guess if you only work 48 weeks the following year you could somehow juggle the figures to make out 56 weeks in a year.

My African workmen could get paid 365 salries a year only they don't turn up every day, maybe 1 day in 3 if i'm lucky but that's still 120 salaries a year !
He's referring to the fact that if you were to come up with a weekly salary along the lines of a 13-month salary, you would need 56 weeks in a year...

Re: 2010 bonus

Sorry to sound so ignorant, but what is this "salary" thing everybody is talking about?

And some of you get something called a "bonus"?

Please explain.

Re: 2010 bonus

The whole point of the 13th is so that those who are poor savers would have money to pay their tax bill.

Just wondering how much you got for this year? Name the industry and % of your annual salary.
I'm occupied in Finance and I got around 5% That is in addition to the 13th salary which as I understood is quite a standard.
The results of the unemployment office were so poor this year that I didn't receive any bonus at all, how outrageous!

As long as you are happy with 5%, that's all that matters

The point is that the honourable Doucheg is wondering if he is the only unlucky person on the whole forum to not get a stupidly large bonus, despite being the only one in his workplace department to get an actual bonus, which must, erm, double his misfortune.

Personally, my heart goes out to him during this difficult and trying time of his life.

I have NEVER groaned at anyone on this Forum, but right now am sorely tempted!

In completely bad taste, and on one of the most religious days of the year when we should all be thinking of our more unfortunate neighbours.

If you had said: I received a 10% bonus on top of my 13th salary, but hell I don't need it and I gave it all to the Salvation Army, it would have been more appropriate!.
Well to be 'fair' to the OP, I personally don't subscribe to the "its christmas, so lets think about all the worlds suffering on this one specific day and donate to charity" spiel, and I wouldn't force it on the OP either. I'm not remotely religious, dont personally donate my own money or bonuses to charity (besides clothing), and I dont think I can bring about world peace. The OP was in bad taste regardless of what day it was.

Re: 2010 bonus

If you ask me (but no one did) - what an indelicate post... No - a thirteen month salary is not standard. No, we all didn't get a bonus much less 5%. No bonus here for homegirl and what is a 13th salary? As a teacher my bonus is not monetary, but I have regular minibreaks.

I can't ascertain if you are complaining or not? Be grateful brother. Give thanks.

If it is written into the contract then, it really is not a bonus is it? From my point of view it is just part of the normal salary.... Not getting it would be the issue!!!

Jim
in fact it was minimum 10% in case of excellent performance (which is determined based on appraisals), so when I personally did well, but the year was bad / economic situation disastrous / another comet falling on Earth etc., they were not happy but still were obliged to pay it to me
next year they were smarter and gave bad appraisals to everyone

To find out what the situation is at other companies in the country.
I must admit I got a lil' carried away because of all the insulting posts

There were lots of people here that would have equally work as hard and many of them without reward. Your comments are self glorifying and rather than thinking about how smart you are, show a little humility in your success.

Substitute hard for smart, the same applies. Did you not understand my post, perhaps you're not quite as smart as you think?

As long as you're not deciding on my bonus, I don't care if you think I'm dumb
