NEVER EVER share political views at work - totally contrary to my work experience in Switzerland
Typical conversation with a certain colleague (whom I've worked with for 21 years): So, how did you vote? Probably the opposite of what you did! (he's usually right, or rather I'm right and he's left)

Weird thing is that I'll get along great on a personal basis with co-workers that I can't work with, and have close friends (and work colleagues that I work well with) with totally opposing political views! Strange.

We have trouble discussing politics in a civil manner over here.
I never have.

We discuss politics all the time, even at work.

Wow, my American wife would be offended! Honestly, the food in the US is amazing.
Yes, I agree. The country is so polarized, it is virtually impossible to have a civil political discussion.

But you were talking about Rockland County -

Re: Swiss working culture

My experience has been a mix. I find the Swiss very friendly and sociable, whether it's at lunchtime or even during the day. As far as working ethics, I'm still undecided. Having others take credit for your work is rampant here when compared to other cultures and companies where I have worked. Dishonest people are everywhere, I know, but I've encountered a lot more than I'd expect here. It's a lack of professionalism I find really disappointing. Also rampant are the middle-aged, married 'family' men you've maybe encountered once in the coffee room but who then send you emails inviting you for lunch. It's awkward.

But back to the friendly factor this just continues to impress me. In every environment here, I find the Swiss to be courteous. I've lived in many countries and nowhere else do people greet you as much as they do here. =D
