I know a lot that don't take their work to work with them, if that helps?

Re: is your salary fair ? Consider this:

Thanks for posting these, it's good to see that they're quoting salaries pretty much in line with what's discussed here as an adequate salary to live on and what to expect.

What I don't get is why they're quoting weekly salaries (presumably netto), you would have thought they'd take the trouble to convert them to brutto monthly salaries for easier comparison...

Re: is your salary fair ? Consider this:

I'm pretty sure those are gross monthly salaries with e.g. minimum 42 working hours a week. For instance, in my job contract there's similar number of weekly hours.

BTW: A "Staatsschreiber" is the General Secretary of the government in a canton. He or she is considered the highest career administrative and is usually the head of the cantons chancellery.
Ah, the joy of idiomatic language

I just
  1. put strassscheiber into Google Translator
  2. put Strassscheiber into Google Translator
  3. put scheiber into Google Translator
  4. put cheiber into Google Translator

Ya learn something new every day

I understand some of these descriptions, but what does a number, followed by "std.", followed by GAV mean?
These are the minimum wage levels the unions negotiated for industry

The numbers refer to the hours per week worked (Std = Stunden) Salaries quoted are minimum gross monthly!

GAV = Gesamt Arbeits Vertrag = General Working Contract

Re: is your salary fair ? Consider this:

Granted that these figures are realistic, I learnt something today. I should stop bitching and moaning about my salary. Tomorrow back at work bright eyed and bushytailed with smile across my face. Thank you boss

Re: is your salary fair ? Consider this:

I am continually amazed when speaking with ordinary workers whom accept their rôle in Switzerland and are not interested in joining a union. They all hope to be the boss one day and earn that 100,000 per year.

What? You mean these are monthly ? And gross ? But ... but ... people just can't survive on that kind of money!

Gulp. Was it not obvious that I was joking? Even after I made reference to the EF "is this salary enough" discussions ? Doh.

I just thought it was funny that it listed loads of salaries without explaining what it meant by salary.

So, if I've understood you correctly, Christmas is like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife, and a year is straight and 8 miles long?
