I frankly do not resent this at all. It is called "supply and demand". Bereiter is somebody working with horses all day. I know a lot of people who actually SPEND money to ride horses instead of getting paid. So I can imagine that there will be enough people willing to do their dreamjob for relatively little money...
Until you realise that your dream job is actually a nightmare. Being in the stables from 7 to 11.30 and then again from 13.30 to past six o'clock six days a week, in every weather was not what got to her most, but the fact that her employer was rude and dismissive all the time too. Apparently this is pretty much standard among "horse people".

49.999999 % of mankind actually are even below that degree of stupidity or ugliness. Go figure.
The vast majority of humans have an above-average number of limbs.

Think about it.

To Phil MCR, it is not easy to change jobs here. People from another canton are treated suspiciously, for some jobs (e.g. Pharmacist) you need to apply for permission to practise in that canton. If you are a baker, how do you get to the next town at 4 am? And from the EF you know how difficult it is to find decent accomodation in another city.
actually practising as a pharmacist is difficult in many countries as there are often rules restricting the number in a given area and getting a 'position' can be a case of dead man's boots.

from what i can see, it's very easy to get a job here. friends of mine who change jobs are being interviewed and getting several offers from different firms. this also shows through the unemployment statistics which are far lower than many other countries.

you certainly don't see the pictures as in the uk where a huge queue formed outside a job centre on the rumours of new jobs coming.

I think you're confusing average and median IQ
I wasn't confusing them. I'm fairly familiar with that kind of stuff and quite a bit beyond that, but I think in that context the difference is minimal. What's more, most people can handle terms like "average" but don't have a clue as to percentile, median etc..

Besides that, it's a joke older than the Alps.

Yes it is fair: you agreed to it, your employer as well. Both without coercion.

Sure. But we stopped buying things we really need in the 1960s when the one and only real mini was around (and not some poshed-up micro bmw for a ridiculous price). Since then you buy things you want. And that is most definitely not a Mini in my case... or any other heterosexual males'.
Last time I checked I wasn't a heterosexual male and humm, this is MY fantasy. You get your own!! Anyway, on 10K a week(!) I can also buy up all the old ones... Oh, this is going to be so fun! My neighbors won't be happy.

PS, the "poshed up micro BMW" ROCKS! (and they are not expensive, especially since I'm making 10K a week... hello!?)

This is why I very rarely comment on any "is my salary enough" threads, they just make me too angry...
It was funny dreaming of 10K per week, but I agree with you. Those threads also make me cringe. We lived perfectly well on one salary which was less than what some people ask "is this enough" about. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in some people's houses to see what they are spending their money on.

Well, that actually supports my theory, doesn't it?

And yes, they are expensive compared to any other car with similar specs. I do not think you can find any car that costs more in the same class. (maybe the A1...)

A friend of mine is in the flying business, and salaries really aren't as rumoured. From what he described, you're on very little money, with huge debts (training is super expensive) for a long time.

Healt insurance 1200 (1050 basic, lowest franchise and little add on, no semi-private), 2400 apt found after months of searching, 20km from city limits, now average food for 5 persons, insurances, tickets, and voilą 7k per month in Vaud paradise :-)

yes, there are. They are well hidden, and it may be a reason why even in multinational, management wants ppl to consider their salaries the ultimate secret... if they start comparing, they'd know...

Re: is your salary fair ? Consider this:

i was wondering, since you guys are comparing among multinationals in swiss, i was wondering if the salary for UN in the field of IT is competitive with the multinationals or it is slightly below average ? after looking at the incoem tax for switzerland, it seems that switzerland doesnt have a high bracket of income tax, isnt it ?

anyone with any comments ? or even better who work in UN ? hope to hear your insights...
