Re: is your salary fair ? Consider this:

Well, if that's the case, it's certainly not from French.

By the way, and I know my German is pretty atrocious, but the -in suffix denotes a female, doesn't it? I see quite a few professions where the default is this option (Floristin, Pferdpflegerin, Modedesignerin etc). Nice to see that linguistic sexism is alive and well! (Although I'm wondering why someone who looks after a horse is automatically judged to be a women, whereas a "Tierpfleger" in general is a man).

Sorry, that wasn't really about salary, but I don't read a lot of German, so it's interesting.

I understand some of these descriptions, but what does a number, followed by "std.", followed by GAV mean?

It's a part-time mornings job - you're usually expected to work afternoons as a "Saal Brauer"

Check it out now...

42. std = "42 working hours per week"

GAV = with Employment Contract
kein GAV = without Employment Contract

Only if this was in english or my german was better, I could have walked to my boss requesting higher salary, incase I was being paid more than the list. I would just smile in solace

Sure there do. They go to learn the language of the other parts of the country. My friend in Vaud has an au-pair from St Gallen.

Actually, "GAV" means Gesamtarbeitsvertrag ("General employment contract"). A GAV means that there was collective bargaining in particular sector of the economy. So "mit GAV" means that the salary given on the list is the standard salary according to the guidelines laid out in the GAV.

BTW: A "Staatsschreiber" is the General Secretary of the government in a canton. He or she is considered the highest career administrative and is usually the head of the cantons chancellery.

Organist...someone harvesting organs for transplant? Not so well paid given risks.
Cabaret-dancer: can't imagine 1 sec it's paid 2300CHF, but tipping should bring revenue in a much higher range.
