| | Salary negotiation for M&A position
I am moving to Zurich in the spring from the US and will be performing a corporate M&A function at a global Swiss company where I will manage acquisitions/JV/partnerships/etc... The official title will be M&A Manager.
The position involves a lot of travel, long hours, and managing complex projects. Curious to know what other folks in ZRH/Swiss are making for a similar position so I have an idea of what my reasonable salary negotiation range is.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum.
In Switzerland it is mandatory for Managers to know the functions of search tools. You can try it either in this forum or maybe you will find a so called search engine on the interwebs.

10% bonus is probably enough. By the way if you want to integrate you will need to know that Switzerland is the country and not swiss. Guaranteed to piss of the locals.

Thanks | | | | | so you accepted job before discussing salary or having an idea about it? Can you still negotiate?
M&A requires valuation and negotiation skills.....I'd worry if I were the CEO of that global swiss company.

| | Re: Salary negotiation for M&A position | Quote: | | | | Plus bonus. | | | | | Please confirm when you know it, we love threads asking if 120.000 chf is enough to live on then sit back and watch the comments..
Different companies have different names of what their staff is doing.
We called the cleaning lady in my last job also a " floor manager ".. didn't mean she got paid manager salary
The Swiss don't realy like to talk about money, best thing you can do is contact a job agency (manpower etc) and ask them, since they deal with it every day they will be able to give you a ball park figure.
Then again that could change depending on the companies budget, your experience etc.. so its hard to put a number it.
Check the following :
Lohnbuch
And our belove EF search function brought up these : Salary
Hope it helps,
Good luck and see you back in the thread where you tell us what you earn

If the M&A guys I know are anything to go by - then 120,000chf per annum equates to about 120,000chf per useful hour!

Negotiating tactics in M&A are simple.
Write down your phone number.
Let them assume it's your salary demand.
If they pay it, you've won. If they don't, make an excuse about calling you later to discuss.
Problem solved.

Hey, let's give the OP a break. It's tough to start such tedious exercise. All of us were newbies at some point of time. I would suggest from something reasonable - let him find brown sugar first, then report back for the next step.

M&A should pay quite well but you seem to have already accepted the position?
How much experience do you have in completion of M&A activities?

You cannot expect a M&A manager in a global company to be able to estimate value outside his home country.

Yeap! Next step would be set of instructions to relocations i.e. villa in posh area and getting some nice Porsche, then bonuses guide comes next and tax evasion... But one step at the time. Proverbial Swiss: "Schritt für Schritt". |

The Mullets & Ausländer Manager in my company is not paid too well.
On a serious note: Yes, the people here like to take the piss but you can only blame yourself - the info you gave is so insufficient that nobody can possibly give you a ballpark figure. You manage "acquisitions/JV/partnerships/etc"? Are we talking Millions, hundreds of Millions or Billions of contract value? You know, that might have a slight impact on your salary...
