Around 3,000/month.

Why do you need such a huge place to live? Family?
100 m2 is hardly huge, about right for 2 people

Re: IT salary in Geneva

Maybe in the US. But this in Europe, high density cities.

100square metres if for a 4-5 person family here..

The rental agencies won't even rent you an apartment that big without a family Even if you could afford it!

You can rent next door in Canton Vaud for a little bit less. A house might be affordable there.

I used to live in Nyon, and there is a train every 15 minutes to Geneva
which takes 15 minutes.

It's huge meaning, it is a luxury size for how much cash you end up paying for it.

Agencies will let you rent it if you have a steady, large income, good jobs for both partners. Agencies will also be less picky in VD, as has been mentioned. Life in nearby VD isn't as expensive in Ge, but if you like city life, the cost might even out, since you will have to travel back and forth. Still worth the peace, though. Ge is filled to the gills.

Given you started this thread Geneva Salary just over a month ago, I can only think you are either very silly or deliberately trolling.

Thanks for noticing, NAT. No name calling, please, keep moving.

Let's wish OP good luck, it really is incredibly difficult to get settled in GE.

Re: Geneva Salary

It seems you've been here since January, how has your apartment/house hunt been going? Have you found any houses for rent in your budget? What about apartments in the 100m2 range? I'd be curious to hear about your search so far as my BIL will start his search in GE very soon.

Re: Geneva Salary

I spent ages putting together FAQs about salaries in Switzerland so that people didn't have to write sarcastic posts when newbies asked about salaries in Switzerland. It was supposed to make this a nicer, friendlier, more welcoming place... but maybe I was hoping for too much.

In any case, since I went to the trouble to write it, you might as well have a read to see if it answers your questions.

FAQ: A brief guide to salaries in Switzerland

And before you ask...

FAQ: Is CHF100'000 a good salary?

And welcome to the forum!

I'm afraid that would assume the person starting the thread actually did a search and found your post which is sadly most likely not the case as we've seen time and time again.

But I appreciate your efforts. It's fab thread you put together.

Actually, I didn't expect newbies to find it by searching. We already know that doesn't work.

I'd hoped that regulars would remember that the thread was there (it's posted in the stickies, so it's easy to find) and they'd post the link for the newbie. I'd hoped it was quicker to post a helpful pointer than a note.

Hope springs eternal...

If you look in the smaller villages along Lac Leman and up in the hills there you can find some deals. Anything within walking distance to the station in Nyon is going be scarce and expensive, likewise for Gland, Rolle, and Coppet. But if you can get around that and don't need nightlife right outside your door you will find significantly cheaper rents in the boondocks.

If you check the map, you see the distance, great for Geneva commute. But start looking for apartments now, we can 't do the search for you. I never looked there for availability but the rents are defo cheaper there than Nyon, for example. Further from Geneva, closer to Lausanne, rents decrease.

Morges sucks. Don't go looking there, it's terrible.

Kidding, I am currently looking in Morges and there's hardly anything available . So shoo!

He's single so I'm sure 60-70m2 will be fine for him. (Hello, calling all the single ladies!!)

It's your life, but to be honest, you'd be better off living in a 70m2 place then commuting to & from Yverdon. That's would be an absolute nightmare.
