Re: Reasonable salary for Software Engineer in Luzern

I think as a single bloke, willing to share as you are now, shopping for food at cheap shops like Aldi, buying second hand furniture, second hand bike, etc, there is more potential to save than in the UK, and have a bit more fun. Mountain air is free, as is water at fountains. Living abroad is always more fun.

The quality of second hand stuff here is really good and prices are lower than the UK. Fresh food from farm shops is fantastic quality. I am sure you can find an apartment share for 600chf or so with other students/ farm workers. Use the Credit Swiss tax calculator on Homegate and perhaps look for a share in a town in Kanton Zug. Hunnenburg or Rotkreutz, somewhere between the town Zug and Luzern. Tax in Kanton Zug is almost half that in Luzern, and Rotkreutz is in Zug and is 15 minutes away.

Dial 999...help...help...I'm being murdered!

I'm sorry Sir, but the Inland Revenue reports that you didn't declare a £5 book token from your Auntie Edna on your tax return. The police are far to busy.

THe less tax you pay, the less police will arrive to assist you if you are in an accident or are mugged for example. Taxes pay for the environment around you, when you drive on the roads, take the train.

Everyone should pay their fair share of tax.

Re: Reasonable salary for Software Engineer in Luzern

I think that 70K is a bit low IMHO. You should be earning 90-100k IMHO.

This comes from my recent experience in looking for a job.
