Jobs for American Student in Zurich

Hello All,

I am an American student studying in Zürich getting my second Master's. I wanted to know if there are any jobs that I do while in Zürich. My German, sadly, is not very good. I also have a myriad of job experiences in the US from public school teacher to Apple Store Specialist. Any help, ideas or jobs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

check out this website if you havent already done so: http://www.diplom.ch/ . If you look at "Nebenjobs" once you're on the site, you will find part-time and/or temporary work. The site also displays entry level positions for graduates. Good luck with the search!

Does your permit allow you to work? Be careful and don't get in trouble.

I am also an American graduate student wondering about work. If you have a student visa, you should be able to work 15 hours a week during the school year and fulltime (100%) during the summer. This is from the officials in Basel, but I would imagine this that this is a country wide ruling and not canton specific! Good luck!

Re: Jobs for American Student in Zurich

Hey, I was wondering how you were able to study and get your masters without 'good German'. Do you have C1 level? I am in the situation where i am at B2 and wanted to take german classes at Zürich Uni to get to C1, but as far as i can understand you have to have C1 to even apply. Does anyone have any advice as to how i can get my C1 certificate, preferably through the university. Thanks

Re: Jobs for American Student in Zurich

I'm applying for my student visa in the next week. I have been accepted to a Master's program at U of Bern.

What is the C1 level and B2?

And what kinds of jobs are available for English speaking students during the academic year and during the summer? I've just begun to learn German, but I'm studying with Rosetta Stone, so its making learning the language a lot easier.

B2 ist like the First Certificate in English and if you have the C1 then you can speak German very well.

My English level is B1 but so far I know, you can work with B2.
