Re: My Experience Getting Hired in CH (NonEU)

I wish we could read more about stories like yours. You are an inspiration. I have heard so many negative things about me trying to move to CH but i will not change my mind. Thanks for this post. I love this song by Kanye

Update:

My work visa was approved by Kanton Zug and Bern. I will be back in Switzerland in late May.

For those who want to know how I did this, see my first post in this thread.

For all the haters:

"Bring Me Down" Kayne West (feat. Brandy)

Lyrics: "I always knew that one day
They'd try to bring me down
Wow, one day, they tried to bring me down
Always knew that one day, they'd try to bring me down
Down, way down" ...

"You see, if you ever wanted to ever be anything
There'd always be somebody that shoot down any dream
There'll always be haters, that's the way it is
Hater $&#& marry hater #**@ and have hater kids"

That's real talk.

Lesson is, know yourself (first and foremost, what you bring to the table), know the job market (this site is a good place to come to learn about it, but take opinions with a grain a salt, a lot of salty nasty haters around here), and work your ass off, do not stop.

You might just get there.

Later, I got life to live, my fiancee found a nice apartment on Zugersee...in Stadt Zug. Life is getting better everyday.

From the time they got the signed employment contact back, it took a total of 5 weeks to process the stuff at the Canton/Federal levels, pretty fast turn around.

People that get hired are usually in the Finance, Audit, or IT fields although
it is certainly possible for other skillsets.

From inspiration to cautionary tale:

Leaving Switzerland Next Week for Taiwan and then Singapore Thank God

FYI, the OP left Switzerland because he disliked it so much.

Then hopefully i will get hired if a company is willing to sponsor a work permit. I am in IT with a Bachelor in Computer Science and more than 7 years experience.

Whether he stayed in CH or not is besides the point i think. The point of his post was that as an American he found a company willing to sponsor his work permit which is sometimes difficult. May be he changed his mind about staying in CH. I might change my mind later also but for now i would love to move there.

It'll be even more difficult for the next American who applies to that company now, though, won't it?

Well, look what the cat dragged in. You did the impossible before, I'm quite certain you will manage to find a job this time around as well. All the best with your job search.

Keep us posted.. Some of us have been trying for a few years with limited success -- hope your luck is better than ours!

As an aside, did you try your old contacts and links in your first message to see if the methods were still valid?

So AmericanGotWorkVisa, what's inspiring this return to Switzerland if you don't mind me asking? The thrill of the pursuit? ;-) I'm also a non-EU on the comeback trail after a brief hiatus and I can't say the political climate is any more appetizing than it was the first time.

Why, if it's so awful?

There's still no night shopping, and still restrictions on when you can use your washing machine. And the locals still don't always speak high German.

The current political climate certainly will not help things. I am a non-EU and also unexpectedly back (married to EU worker). Even with an unrestricted B Permit job hunting is almost impossible (1 year unemployed already). Good luck!
