Is CHF 70,000 a good salary to get by in Basel?

Hi All,

I am considering a job offer and relocating to Basel. Would CHF 70,000 be a salary worth considering?

Many Thanks

This has been responded a lot of times. Use the Fine Search button.

I'd say 70,000 is good enough, but it depends on your expectancies and situation.

Re: Is CHF 70,000 a good salary to get by in Basel?

Cant seem to find anything around that figure. Read from alot threads that you need about CHF100,000 to be comfortable.

I have a comfortable setup in Edingburgh, with a nice flat, car and decent salary. However I fancy a change and the potential in the job offer is really good for my CV.

Just wondering if i would be able to replicate a similar life style ie gym, nice flat, good food and typical nights out for a single 27 year male.

Thanks

Define comfortable?
Define nice flat?
What car?
Define decent salary?

Everything is relative - if you think 70kchf is 45k gbp you are in for a shock. And unless you give more, and useful, information - you're just going to get a hold load of sarcastic replies!

Two more for your reading list:

FAQ: Is CHF100'000 a good salary?

The answer, as always, is: it depends.

Haha i am prepared to cut back and shop in the tescos equivalent and probably just buy all my clothes in eds when back home.

I wouldnt plan on bring a car as the transport system is very good over there. But one thing that i dont want to give up is general good healthy food items. I luv my red meats esp the steaks are the meats decent enough prices at the butchers?

calculating on a CHF70,000 slaray i would have roughly 4,300 a month. Plan would be max 1000 for rent and the rest to get by for the month. Thats leaves 825 per week. Thats plenty right? Thou have feeling a night out probs cost me 2/300 CHF

Salaries in Switzerland sound like a lot when converted to other currencies, but it doesn't work that way. We live very frugally while in Switzerland - no car, nice but small apartment, cook and eat meals at home, almost never go out for drinks, virtually no shopping for clothes, etc - and then when we're on holiday we enjoy eating out, shopping, etc and have a ball!

Switzerland really is an expensive place. To have the lifestyle you want, it's true you'll need at least 120,000! That said, it is an easy place to live without a car and if you lived with roommates instead of having your own place, you could have the CV building job and new experience and still maintain some of your current status quo. Just a thought!

In Basel, it will make sense to do your meat shopping in Germany or France!

What do those living in Basel say to max 1000 CHF for rent? In Zurich, that would certainly mean living with roommates.
