experiencing long delay

Morning everybody,

I had a first phone interview with a big swiss compagny (feb 2011) and then one day interview (HR, line managers, and potential coworkers) in march. Since I am waiting for a response.
Today HR said me than I have to wait 2 more weeks, but in the mean time I got offers from others compagnies. I don't know what to do because this compagny is a good swiss compagny very recognised and the mission interest me.

Is this kind of delay current in switzerland?
Is it a bad sign?

You think it's a goo idea to contact directly manager? Because if the response is negative and I am too late to accept other offer... I'm so s....

Thank you very much for your advices!
(and sorry for my english...)

Re: experiencing long delay

Can be totally normal here to take a long time to hire someone. If I was in your shoes I would call up HR & explain the situation, that you have another offer but would prefer to work for them. If they are really interested in you they will let you know quite quickly.

You cannot rest until you have the contract. Go after another job, while waiting for the good job, which you might not get. .

Which country is yours? Please don't tell me France? I've never had such a long drawn out hiring process then when I was interviewing for a French company. lol.

BUT, large companies in general have much more lengthy hiring times as they need to get you approved through more people. If you want a short hiring process, you should look for smaller companies.

Your only real option is to do as Lou suggests and also try to stall the other company.

I know it's frustrating, but it's certainly not a "Swiss thing".

Re: experiencing long delay

Indeed i'm french, but I didn't said it was a swiss caracteristic, I think the reason is more the size of the compagny which is very large.
HR tell me that there is a lot of candidates too...

But the recruitment process is running since december, which, i think, is really long even for a large compagny. Indeed the best to do is keep searching a job and let this compagny complete its recruitment process.

Re: experiencing long delay

You need to know what is the process workflow.

I have applied for a French Company in Cote DŽAzur in November and they are hiring only this month.

The explanation is that they froze the recruitment.

Another big company in Amsterdam started on January for a testing position. They have been bought and test manager left and 2 months later they are not even interviewing.

All you need is info.

Yes, I'm going with that as the problem: Big companies = slow hiring.

I guess I didn't quite understand what you meant when you said:

Re: experiencing long delay

My sentence wasn't very clear ^^
Superfast I hope my recruitment wont take this time, It would be very frustating.
I think i'm going to wait one more week and then call the HR manager and asking for news and maybe explain my situation.
Because in my mind, if you fit the position and you have the skills and are friendly, it should not take so much time to get a feedback. But i'm a little bit unexperienced with big compagnies.

Many thanks
