Re: Salary - is there a minimum wage in Switzerland?

To Lina ...

Go and talk to the authorities, now, really. In french it would be the "Office Cantonale de la Population" (where you go to ask for your permit) and the "Hotel des finances" (where you find out about taxes)...

Tell them you want to be here legally, you were proposed a full time contract and you were promised all the benefits (and deductions). Tell them that after 2 months your employer hasn't provide proof of anything and you are getting worried because that puts you at risk (in many levels).

If you were taken for a ride, don't be afraid. The authorities will back you up. But be honest and explain the situation.

Your "employer" will be pissed but he deserves that and much more so don't worry about it. It is not worth staying with him to receive 2500 under the table anyways. It is actually rare to find internships with such a low salary, I dont see how he can expect to pay that to somebody with a professional degree.

In the worse case, won't you be better in your own country as a Lawyer than here as an illegal immigrant?

...

On the other hand, if you are working for him knowing that it is illegal, that you don't pay taxes and that you are not insured you will just make us angry . We had to go through all the loops and it is not nice to see people asking for advice when they don't even dare to go ask the tax office...

Oh well that sounds like a plan. So you will be applying for a work permit and telling the authorities that you want to pay tax on money you earned before you had a permit? I expect your employer will happily also retroactively announce to the avs inspectors, who by then will be auditing his "mingy" books, that he will gladly backdate the avs contributions? ditto for insurances etc etc.
I don't want to say you are wrong but when I asked for my permit it was taking so long I went there and asked if I could work without it. They said since everything was in order, I could start working without it and I should receive it soon enough.

I don't want to accuse the OP of any wrong doing. That is something that can happen and if you are said by your employer that your permit is being processed you tend to believe him.

As I said before, if she didn't have intention of breaking the law, she should go to the authorities. I would think she has nothing to fear since she is the victim in this case. Although the opinion of someone familiar with swiss laws will be kindly welcomed (yes... I am quite curious about such things ).

I am lithuanian, Lithuania is a part of EU. So I can stay in Switzerland for 3 months without a visa. I do need a working permit, which i do not have, but considering I am lithuanian, it is rather simple for me to receive a work permit in Switzerland once I have a job offer. Then its just a matter of time
I think you need to reread this then.

You know, this pretty much summarizes the situation!

Lina, read carefully:
- You are being conned and taken advantage of by this "employer".
- By not having you permits in order while working you are at risk of p!ssing off the Swiss authorities which CAN and will reject your work permit and send you packing home. Don't believe the authorities will be on your side, they won't!
- STOP working for this person and look for another job! Even working at the supermarket will get you better pay!
- You have been made aware of the situation! From now on you can not pretend you don't know what is REALLY going on.
