Hello, my name is Luka. I'm 14 (soon 15) years old. I have a diplomatic D visa card. I am from Croatia, a non-EU country. I speak English and Croatian fluently, and a little French (I can have simple conversations with French speakers).

I am looking for a job over the summer. Any jobs for 1-2 weeks will be perfect. Do I need any work permits here? And how do I obtain them?

Luka, normally it is forbidden to employ any kid under 15. Depending when is your b-day, you may apply.

However, I would expect that for small jobs, most people will overlook it. Have a look at the local Migros or Coop, and see if baby-sitting may be requested... or go in the local bakery/newspaper/coffee shop and ask if they may require help during school break (perhaps during the week-ends?). You should not need any work permits in addition to your card... you are legally here.

Oh, and a suggestion: I don't know if Luka S****** is your real name, but I would suggest for your safety that you don't use your real identification on internet... a pseudonim would be better.

I really don't think any Migros/Coop or official employer will employ a 15 year old. Much better to try and get a job as mother's help/gardener, etc.

I can't help, but loads of natives of your age are also looking for summer jobs, so try to present it as an opportunity to improve your knowledge of our language (French)

At Migros and Coop there are big boards where people sometimes ask for help. Luka could post there a proposal for - washing cars? gardening? mowing the lawn?

In my Gemeinde, it is permitted to work with conditions from the age of 13, but with far lesser restrictions after 15. For a short term job, perhaps the Croatian Embassy and community ( some advice from them here too ) might be willing to provide a task for you during summer ?

Last year my then 14 year old daughter worked on a farm for 2 weeks.
Pay wasn't brilliant but it was better than nothing.
I think the minimum number of weeks that you can work is 2 and I don't know about the maximum.

The hours were long, the work was hard but it was a good expirence for her.

I have a feeling that when people are here for diplomatic missions, their family members cannot work? It may have changed, though...
