How much to charge per one hour?

A friend of mine is a native speaker of some particular language and holds a corresponding master degree. He is now requested to indicate his hourly rate by a private school in Zurich for teaching this language. This friend of mine is quite new to the job market in Zurich, and has not had too much work experience.

How much would be a reasonable price per 1 hour? (Remark: for this one hour of teaching, this individual has to spend several hours of preparation).

Sorry for the quite obscure query and thank you very much for your help.

Re: How much to charge per one hour?

My present German teacher charges CHF 100 / hour + some overhead expenses. The rates are very similar among other German teachers too. But. for a different language the price may be a bit higher too (depending on demand).

Re: How much to charge per one hour?

A qualified private tutor might charge anywhere between 40 and 100CHF per hour. (Edit: or more).

Re: How much to charge per one hour?

Thank very much. I should have emphasized - the price is for teaching a small group.

Re: How much to charge per one hour?

It also depend on what language. Say, it is Russian.
That language is sought for, has future, people usually do not go into Russian classes just because of some romantic ideas or travel plans. So, for Russian I would charge more than for, say, Croatian. Sorry, if the reasoning sounds discriminatory.

Also, be aware, that private language schools usually do not pay so much, compared to local schools, or, high profile language agencies.

If it is a group setting, 4-5 students, once a week, 120fr. They will probably give you somewhere between 80-100fr. The pricing is completely up to you, the joy of being independent.
