Indian girl getting married and moving to Switzerland

Hello all,
I am 26 year old indian girl working in a reputed IT company in india. I am planning to get married with my boyfriend who is doing PhD in switzerland. He will finish his PhD within a year and join as a postdoc somewhere in switzerland. As My present company has onsite branches in switzerland as a first step ,I inquired about the possibility of shifting there but that is not possible as at present there are no suitable project for that. That leaves me 3 choices

1.Leave the present job and try to find a job in switzerland.which I guess is very tough. As my husband will have B permit and I will have a dependent visa ,will I be eligible for any jobs ?

2. I am also a good painter, and won many awards in both state and national level competitions. If I get some opportunity to go to some art school and continue my art ,I would be more happy. Can any one please tell me what kind of scope exists to study fine arts in switzerland. How expensive are the courses ?

3. I do my job in india and he continue in switzerland and we will meet during long holidays .. which is really not so practical and we will be able to meet not more than 3 months a year.

I need your suggestions regarding these.please help me.

Hi Mist,

If you will get a dependent B permit with working rights (Most B permit dependents can work) nothing like it,I see no risk in you quitting your present job and trying for one here. If you have over 3 -4 years of experience getting a job esp in and around Zurich area is brighter. No one can gurantee a job but sometimes Fortunes saves the brave. Browse through job sites in Switzerland, understand the Swiss job market and make good use of EF past threads for all doubts you may have.

As for your art interests I have no idea perhaps somebody else can answer that for you.

I do not really see any reason why you should be away and stay separated.

Feel free to PM me for any questions you may have.

Hope this helps
AS

You should be careful here, he is doing a PhD. I do not think his B permit is the same B permit you get when you find a job and they do all the paperwork for you.

That dependent B-permit will definitely allow you to live in Switzerland but I am not sure it will give you access to the job market. I am sure the answer can be found here in the forum using the search function.

Studies here and good and basically free, if you can afford not having a job that is a great option.

Good luck

What does your BF say about this? I have a strong feeling he is best placed to give you an answer but I could be wrong.

BTW if you choose option 3, you can stay in "Swiss" for up to 180 days in a year in spells of 3 months, not a total of 3 months. Add 2 months that your BF can visit India for some conference/work/holidays, and you can spend 8 months of quality time in a year.

Have you considered option 4, which is you moving over and just enjoying the place without working? Easily doable if he is employed at say 75% or 100% at a leading university such as UZH or ETH

Actually me and my bf started this thread together.Getting a dependent visa for me will not be of any problem but we are not sure about the working rights as we are getting mixed responses.
He can easily spend 2-3 months in india ,but for me my company will not allow me even more than 1 months of unpaid leave at a time.

we are not concerned about the money as his salary is sufficient to have a reasonable life in switzerland. It's just that I would like to continue my IT career as I have now more than 4 year experience in this field or would like to do my paintings more seriously.
Thanks a lot for your help though.

There is the University of Art & Design in Lausanne: ECAL
There is also the Hochschule (also Art & Design University) in Luzern: HsLu

Both have good reputation (from what I've heard), but I have no first hand experience.

Hi,

There is also an art school in Zurich with very good reputation: Zhdk

There are art schools (universities) in the following cities in Switzerland that offer bachelor and master courses in art and design:

-Zurich
-Basel
-Luzern
-Aargau
-Bern
-Lausanne

You have to google the names of the schools. Wish you lots of luck.

Re: Indian girl getting married and moving to Switzerland

why do you need an art school? just paint stuff that people will buy.
