Civil Engineer in North Switzerland

Hello, I would like to know the best way to get a job in Civil Engineering in North Switzerland (Basel, Zurich, Bern) because I have family in Basel.

I have a Degree and a Master Degree, and I´ve been trying to search for jobs on Internet, but with no positive results.

Thanks

Degree from where, is it recognised here? Do you have a permit?

Civil engineers are in very high demand - really shouldn't be hard.

EDIT: Just saw your other post.I don't know how you think a duplicate will help you at all...

Re: Civil Engineer in North Switzerland

A Degree and Master Degree in University of Minho in Portugal, is one of the Portuguese recognized universities in European Citizen.

I think I don´t need an permit as I´m an European Citizen. I think I only need a work contract.

Re: Civil Engineer in North Switzerland

Hi Luisvb,

Congratulations on finding a job!

My girlfriend is also a civil engineer looking to find a job in Switzerland. I am already here working in Bern as a Computer engineer. I understand that in my line of work it is quite easier, because companies are most of the times satisfied with just English.

So, do you have any tips to share on how a non german speaking civil engineer could get a job here?? Are there any websites targeted at civil engineers? At this point, as she doesn't have a lot of experience, also an internship is more than welcome. Anything from your experience would be a huge help. In terms of the permit, I guess there is no big problem as we are both Greeks and for me it was very easy.

Thanks a lot!

Hi,

I am working and staying in Basel and my wife is currently working as Civil Engineer in India. She is joining me here in Switzerland and so looking for jobs
in Civil Engineering. She has work experience of more than 7 years mainly in Structural design (Civil). Her German language skills are at very basic level only however she will join some language class soon. Can you please recommend or suggest companies where she can think of applying? Direct or indirect pointers will be appreciable.

Cheers!!

Hi Luisvb,

I understand that you find a job as Civil Engineer a couple of years back, Congratulations for that!

In terms of the permit, I guess there is no big problem as she is having dependent B Permit.

Thanks a lot!

Re: Civil Engineer in North Switzerland

Hi Sbrinz, those websites seem to have lots of postings but most of them (if not all) require the applicants to know German.

I am looking for CE job too but it is almost pointless without knowing German (and it takes me a while to learn them). Any other suggestions please?

Also, is it possible to register in Switzerland as an engineer and practice (in my own office), if already registered in an EU country?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Civil Engineer in North Switzerland

Hi everyone!

I will refresh this thread. If some of English speaking civil engineer from here found a job in profession and can shear the solution? I am looking for a job for 6 months (over 200 application) with no result. I've started with searching a job as a "zeichner", because I thought that in this kind of job lack of german should not be a problem. Unfortunately it came out that it actually is
I applied for a companies such as Holcim, Sulzer, Umbricht, Gruner, Implenia. All of them sent me refusal.

Now I am searching any type of job, even physical. Maybe some advice with that? I am tired of sitting at home.
