Upcoming interviews! Still unsure of what salary I should request!

Hello All,

After surfing the employment forum for an hour or two and using the Salarium calculator (8,500 CHF/month) to get an idea of the salary I should request, I'm still unsure! Perhaps you nice people out there could offer some advice please?

About me; I'm half way through an MBA, have a PhD in biochemistry and 7 years of (mostly business development-type) work experience from the UK, Malaysia and the Philippines. I'm 31 and British. My French is very good.

I've got two job interviews coming up, one at CERN in Geneva for a technology transfer/IPR-based role (national income tax exempt) and one at WWF in Gland for a fundraising manger role. Since the latter is a charity, I'm expecting a lower salary than the former.

So my question is;
What annual salary figure range should I am for for (i) the CERN job and (ii) the WWF job?

You help is most appreciated, thanks in advance for any info you can provide!

I don't know much about salaries myself so I can only give you a very rough figure. Some factors that could give us a better idea would be:

-what kind of work you did for 7 years and for what kinds of companies
-where you got your degree from
-what kind of MBA you're doing, where and if it will be finished by the time you start working

From what you've said, I would think anything less than 6 figures is too less. I'd suggest 125k as a very rough estimate.

Re: Upcoming interviews! Still unsure of what salary I should request!

Hi there, thanks for replying.

My work experience is a mixture of intellectual property/technology transfer management together with business development and project management; all in technical/scientific fields. I have worked for a NGO research centre, SME biotech and universities (currently a business development manager at a UK university).

My PhD is from the University of Birmingham.

My MBA is the Open University's international distance learning programme and I won't have finished it until 2012. It's a standard MBA syllabus, so no particular slant.

Hope that all helps a bit. 125K sounds like a lot!
