What percentage for jobs with variable working hours?

I want to believe I've done my fair share of due diligence using the search function (basic, advanced, and google-powered searches) to try and address my question, but so far nada .

So I got a job (HOORAY!) and I need to complete a form, which asks me to describe my working percentage at previous places of employment. The job that most qualifies me for my new job in Switzerland had highly variable working hours. I was a substitute teacher for 4 years. I had assignments that varied from a few days, a few weeks, to the one time I covered for someone for half the school year. On the other hand, I had times when I didn't work for a few days, a few weeks, or a few months when I was on maternity leave.

Any guesses on how I capture this in a percentage ? My best educated guess is to write 20-100%, but I'm guessing the HR department that receives the form will raise an eyebrow to that. They were not involved in hiring me.

Re: What percentage for jobs with variable working hours?

When you were working, you were working 100% so I would describe this as a 100% job. In title or description of the job you can make reference to the fact that you were not 100% utilised. There are substitute teachers here in Switzerland as well so the concept should be familiar to them.

I really wouldn't worry about it too much. You have got the job and this form is just a formality.

Cheers
