Advice please for job searching - Zurich

I am just after some advice, I moved here 1 month ago and enrolled on an intensive beginners German course (so have very basic skills), in the hope of finding a job. I have registered with 3 agencies and have been applying for various roles relating to Finance Analyst, Business Analyst etc (also some admin based roles). I haven't really got anywhere so far, although the agencies told me that it was a difficult market and it will take time etc.

I am at the point where I am thinking of trying a different approach, perhaps bar work or similar. Is this a bad idea? Perhaps a greater knowledge of German is required? Any idea's and advice would be very much appreciated.

You can look at it two ways - if you are trying to advance in your career and you suddenly have "Bar work" cropping up as your most recent job, it might put off potential employers. Here, because the market is so tight, HR departments tend to look at the last couple of positions and see if it fits with the role they are advertising. If not, they don't pursue it. Some employers do look deeper but in this current environment where they get 300+ applications for the same role they have little option but to weed out the no-matches.

On the other hand, it's often better to be employed doing anything than nothing at all and other employers might see it as you being proactive while you bring your German up to speed. You could word it as such in your CV.

I think it is better to be employed rather than doing nothing. Since its been only one month, have patience. Meanwhile work on your skills. You can go through various materials on net related to job hunting.

being unemployed in the USA and here is a great difference. All the money you saved up FLIES out the door , where in the USA you could be good for a few months with that same money
