| | Where is the overtime ?
I have a question I hope someone can answer.
I have just been offered a short contract doing some work.
The work is menial and lowly paid but its only for a couple of weeks so its not going to kill me (I hope).
The thing is when I signed my contract, it was for a normal 42.5 hour week.
When working the first day, I was like pavlovs dog waiting for the siren to go off at 4, it didnt ring.
I asked what was going on, and it seems that instead of a 8.5 hour day, it is in fact a 9.5 hour day, so essentially an extra 5 hours a week, which to be honest, I would rather be with my family than in this place.
Now of course I will get paid for the hour but my question is,what is the rules with overtime here ?
Now I know a lot of you professional types will hurrump and say well we dont get that, its expected.
But this aint one of these jobs, there no ladder to climb, no bonus no fun no rewards, just graft.
So, is there a law about overtime here ?
Thanks in advance.

6.30 til 5.15
30 mins morning break
1 hour lunch
You get paid for 15 minutes of your morning break
It is working 47.5 hours
oh I have counted
So. the question is...do the extra 5 hours get paid a penalty or not......

I am of the opinion that overtime is subject to contract. I certainly have incorporated it into the standard terms and conditions for my company. I prefer to leave it fairly open, meaning that when there's work to be done, I expect people to cover it and compensate by leaving early on quieter days. Of course that doesn't stop individuals from showing me spreadsheets detailed down to the second, whereupon I ask them how long it took to create the Excel document.....
I'd simply ask your employer what the deal is, don't be shy.

Thanks in advance. | | | | | Up until 45 hours a week it is not considered overtime.
Since they have agreed to pay you for the extra time, I believe they may be correct.
Still that would be: 6.30 to 17.00 with 1 hour break at lunch and 2 x 15 minute breaks during the day.
Does that sum up ?
