No such thing as a free lunch...

Hi all, wondering if anyone can help. I have left my job through "mutual agreement" with my employer (multinational) although it was really more of a case of jump before you are pushed. It has been a very stressful experience and basically left me alone and unemployed in Switzerland without a leg to stand on. This is all an aside to the fact that, as part of my employment package I was able to claim Reka lunch cheques at a cost of 10% (i.e 200 CHF worth of cheques per month, at a cost of 60 CHF to me per quarter).

On my last day at work (mid July) I asked what I should do with my remaining cheques, having collected my 3 month allocation at the beginning of July and was basically told not to say anything. HR had clearly forgotten about this in preparing my leaving declaration which says nothing about the cheques. However I have just received my pay slip and been deducted 460 CHF (i.e the total cash amount) for the cheques which I no longer want or need- the money is much more important to me.

I contacted someone at the company who said it was a misunderstanding: that when I had asked about the cheques they'd presumed I only had a month's worth (even though they are, to my knowledge, always given in 3 month batches) and I definitely DID state I had 3 month's worth- hell, IŽd have given them all back on the spot if I'd had any idea this would happen.

I know it seems like a little thing to get worked up about, but 460 CHF is a lot of money when you're unemployed. Is there anything else I can do to try and claim the money back? I'm particularly annoyed because I categorically asked about this to avoid such a situation, however have nothing in writing (either regarding paying or not paying). AAAAAaaaaargghhhhh

Re: No such thing as a free lunch...

This is a serious situation and my heart goes out to you. Alas there is no such as a free lunch but there is something far more valuable; something more enjoyable; something far more difficult to keep down: free beer.

Give thanks and wassail.
