We are getting lots of positive feedback about making the move, so i think we'll be fine. Also as Switzerland seems to be the only country in Europe that does not appear to be collapsing, I think we'll take what we can get and get over there!! Again many thanks for all the info. Now onto looking for schools, flats, getting a dog over there... | | | | | Whereabouts in Zurich is he going to work? City centre or one of the business parks on the outskirts (if so: which one)? While Zurich isn't London, there are some parts of the road network that are very prone to serious congestions due to the sheer weight of traffic in rush hour, and likewise, some public transport commutes can be convoluted, even though public transport is generally top-notch.

That's a good point - I have just looked up the address and the nearest train station appears to be Seebach...so this will influence things considerably. Thanks for raising. To the member who questioned whether the figure 167,000 was a week or a month - it is per annum!!! I don't think the Queen would have a problem if she was on CHF 167,000 per week!!!! Or per month!! By the way if anyone has any links to good state schools or previous threads on this subject, do let me know....every thing is helping now, as it's all going to happen pretty quickly. Best, Judy

I am going to give you a different factor to consider (sorry, but it's true). At that pay level, especially with the current exchange rate, your husband will be under huge pressure to perform. And if he doesn't, well, the rest is history. It's not pretty at that salary level, believe me, I know.

On this salary, you will manage absolutely fine, but the amount will not be as luxurious as it at first may seem if you intend to rent rather than buy ... renting is very expensive as everyone has already pointed out. Plus the usual accoutrements of a "middle class lifestyle" (we moved over from Guildford so I think I have a pretty accurate idea of your intentions by using this phrase) in in the UK may not be so easy to copy out here .. for example, eating out is expensive, even if you only frequent pizzarias and other young children friendly places. Also, gym/music/toddler swim etc etc classes can be on the pricey side. But on the positive side, the mountains and beautiful countryside are free (relatively free if you don't overdose on mountain transport and take a picnic and drinks with you .....)
But from your posts you seem ready to adjust to a new life style, and if you do this, your husband's salary level will be more than adequate.
Enjoy.

Really don't live in zug or Schwyz it will be nightmare commute! Maybe even consider living near your husbands work, there are some nice places round here and while it's not as fancy as the gold coast or other lakeside areas, that is reflected in the rent and it's well connected to the city centre, it's also very convenient for visitors and shopping trips to Germany, lots of young families, minutes to countryside etc.
