When my husband was recently offered a project in the US, his salary and package was quoted in Euros. | | | | | That's because soon Euro will take over the universe by storm

Okay, I'll dive in now.
I used to work for a Pharma company near Neuchatel. SO private message to me in case I can directly relate to your potential employer
As someone also commented. Swiss company should pay in CHF not euro
I'm assuming you are an intelligent Graduate, with a relevent University Degree. Assuming a few years appropriate experience and considering Neuchatel which is cheaper, and a place where you can actually find something to rent. 100K CHF not totally unreasonable.
Non EC citizens have some difficulty getting CH work / residence permits. This phenominen is here to stay and common in EC countries these days - so this pushes down wages for non EC applications.

I might be late, but here goes nothing:
If I understood your credentials correctly (Oracle Consultant 5 years of experience), don't even consider anything below 100k. The market hasn't been great recently but 65k or even 75k would be a very low salary.
I can imagine that you've read about Switzerland or even visited the country before and you liked very much what you saw, but please put some consideration in the responses people posted so far. Again, I'm assuming it is two of you, so unless you can get at least 100k, you are not going to enjoy it at all as you'll continuously struggle to get by. You'll see your swiss colleagues living much better and what's more, unless you are an EU national, it will be very difficult for you to switch jobs. A non-EU national has to undergo the entire visa request process every time they switch jobs. You can be denied a new visa, which has happened in the past to members of this very forum. Once you have relocated here, they know that they have you by the neck. You should not count on negotiating better conditions later, what you negotiate now is what you are going to get for a long while (at least until you get an unrestricted permit).
Unless they are a good and honest company (judging by their offer they are anything but), you'll find it very hard to argue for a better package, since they'll know that your only chance to leave them is a costly relocation back to Dubai (or the slim chance of finding another company willing to go through the visa process).

Although it does seem fishy I can't imagine any serious headhunting firm fishing around for strangers' opinions on salaries in a Forum before conducting a search. There are far more professional sources of information for that (e.g. third-party Compensation Surveys). BUT...perhaps a frustrated hiring manager ?

I've had some interesting conversations with headhunters who were completely out of their depth.

Hello,
This is far too little. And in Switzerland the currency is the Swiss Franc, not the Euro. Don't accept to even discuss it, you should be paid in Euro, especially these days.
With 65 K CHF in Neuchatel you would survive but not enjoy life (no holidays, small flat, never your own home, no restaurant meals, etc).

Have you ever met a recruitment consultant? Especially a junior.

I must have been lucky then, 'cause I only met apparently above-average consultants. So I used the imagination: I closed my eyes, concentrated, extended my arms, open my hands palms up, connected the middle finger and the thumb and did the karma sound thing...still can't imagine any decent headhunter scavenging free info in a FORUM. This would be the last type of website I would use. But as you say, NotAllThere...maybe a Junior will do anything. |
