I don't care who paid for what but I put there my CV to be seen directly by companies, not by recruiters. What is the problem if I state there promptly the recruiters should shop elsewhere but only direct employers are welcome?
then don't put your cv up on sites used mainly by recruiters (good luck finding another job)

op, all your posts so far have been bitching about agencies and you inability to find a job, so what gives?
That was true while my search was limited to Germany/Switzerland. I'm not looking at those markets any more. In the other markets I'm not experiencing problems. However I still get spam from UK recruiters even if my Monster account is deleted. That annoys me.

P.S. The other markets are not dominated by recruiters, there I can restrict with whom I talk without loosing much.

In many other countries recruiters don't play any significant role on the job market.

Re: Warning of UK recruitment agencies

UK agencies still have my CV from 10 years ago on record - and still send me jobs for that CV. I never respond - the email gets deleted - no big deal.

Jobserve/Monster are pretty much 90%+ of agency jobs - agencies post, agencies take your CV - agencies make contact (or vice versa).

The UK IT market is dominated by agencies - for better or for worse. The majority of big companies have preferred supplies - these are agencies who know the type of person (and not just the skillset) that company seeks.

Good luck finding an IT role in the UK without using an agency

In the UK, unless you have relationship with consultancy firms already, you have no chance to get into client especially in my market. Most client will not issue contract directly because of the UK tax/employment law. So good luck in finding a job direct.

Just thought I should warn you to stay clear of certain UK recruitment shops that work for the German and Swiss markets.

darwinrecruitment
computerfutures
progressiverecruitment

What is the problem with those? They don't respect data privacy and refuse to erase your profile when you ask them. In addition they are painfully unable to track any information you communicate to them. Which location you're interested in, your skills, whether you have a work permit. Any next contact you have to recite it all over from the beginning again.

While I haven't heard from computerfutures and progressiverecruitment for a while, the annoying darwinrecruitment seems to have it hard on me. They continue to spam their junk. It seems that mass-spamming is the preferable technique of UK agencies. One of them even told me, what's the big deal, don't like it just delete it someone will reply they always do.

In comparison, Germany agencies are usually capable of professional contact and do react to what you ask of them. They also have a very low opinion of UK shops due to the questionable business ethics of those.

I recommend avoiding giving them any of your documents. Will be extremely difficult to get out. Not worth the trouble. They don't have any valuable positions anyway.
That's a bit harsh on those agencies, but I agree in principle with the sentiment. Having spent 15 years contracting in the UK I could give you another dozen agencies to add to the list. Usually it's the particular pimp who's just being a dick, but sometimes that's all the agency employs.

You only sound a bit annoyed - wait till it gets so bad you need to take them to court

The last company that ignored me settled for a £1500 out of court settlement in my favour after I issued a demand for damages through the small claims court.

A good point raised above....don't wait, take the buggers to court directly if they are flouting the law. It could be a nice profit for you, which when you are out of a job is always welcome.
