Headhunters for IT Security in Zürich?

Greetings, all!
This forum has been the source of many a good chunk of information in the past; I'm hoping it can come through again..

I've put my resume on many a jobsite/agency (Thanks, Mowvich!). I'm thinking that to expand my chances, I should probably contact a headhunter as well..

Does anyone know of an IT-specific headhunter (I do IT/Network Security)? I would *prefer* Zürich/Geneva, but I'm pretty much open to any location, so long as the city's not super-small.

I've already started the process with http://www.oprandi.ch/, so the more, the merrier!

Thanks again..

I work in IT, not security, but I don't think there will be many jobs just in security in Zurich. From what I have see if a company want some security work done they would hire one of the big consulting companies to do the project for them, it would then be handed over to say the network guys when the project was finished.

I think you need to research the job market, and maybe re-brand yourself to fit the available jobs.

This is my 3rd time in Zurich, I am lucky to have a skill set that is in demand. Look at the roles that are on job boards like jobserv.com and see if you could do any of them, do you have a good match to the skill set required, then customise your CV and apply.

This is a much smaller market, so less choice, try and see where you might fit in. But Murphies law still applies, you will see the exact job you want as soon as you sign a contract. Happened to me last week

None of the above

Just a degree and a lot of experience.

Re: Headhunters for IT Security in Zürich?

i think there are 2 kinds of security consultants:

- ones who work in a big firm
- ones who are independent and have enough of a name for themselves that they can find their own work

you just need to decide which group you want to be in and the work will come accordingly.

Or the employed and the unemployed

Seriously though just bear in mind as the question was on headhunters, they'll be looking at job specs with those certifications at least as desired.

Re: Headhunters for IT Security in Zürich?

You can always apply to the Big 4 (Deloitte, etc.) - we all have information security teams. However, for experienced people we do generally look for qualifications like the CISSP, and on the Deloitte infosec team at least, we're really only interested in people who can speak the local language, be it German or French (or maybe Italian).

If you've got the language skills, feel free to shoot me a note and I can point you at our appliation page.

Good luck!

Re: Headhunters for IT Security in Zürich?

Hello,

I have been in Switzerland for 3 years working in this field - 2.5 in Geneva and 4 months in Zurich. For 18 months of that I was looking for a new role.

My first role was a transfer to the UK then my current one I found locally (although was actually headhunted through a UK agency).

The market is certainly tight but jobs do come up from time to time. A lot seem to be in Private Banking, particularly in Geneva.

Feel free to email me on here if you want any more info - happy to look a your CV too.

jobs.ch is worth a look.

Dave

Re: Headhunters for IT Security in Zürich?

Thanks to all for the replies! Sorry, it's been a hectic week!

I've been doing IT/Network Security for 10+ years now (i.e. - I play with routers, loadbalancers, firewalls, VPN devices, linux/freebsd/solaris servers, IDSs, etc). I have a CISSP that's current and have done a fair amount of architecture as well as management, ops/on-call, engineering, tech writing, etc. I also do some light dev work on the side (perl, shell, sed/awk, expect) and would like to flesh that side out a bit more.

I'll check out that consulting firm, thanks for the link!

Thank you to all again! One day, I would like to call Zürich home!

if you already have the CISSP, then as suggested, you might try the big consulting firms and get a job with them.

Re: Headhunters for IT Security in Zürich?

Hi all!

I'm also in this position, I'm looking for a position in Information Security in Zurich / Winterthur area, since im moving there till the end of the year.

I've worked 2 years has a System Administrator (Linux) / Web developer in a StartUp and 1 Year in Deloitte Portugal ( Enterprise Risk Services, Security & Privacy ) where I performed IT Audits, Security Assessments, Access Control & Role Management, and others. I did try Deloitte CH, but since I still don't know German nor French ( going to start learning soon ) there was no position available

In terms of Certification, I have the LPIC-1 (Linux Professional) and ITILv3, and i'm studying for the C.E.H and maybe i'll do the OCSP (Offensive-Security Certified Security Professional)

Any suggestions? I'm also considering starting in a different role, maybe in a Startup or IT Consulting, and see what I can find after I'm settled in Switzerland....
