work permit requirements for commuting job in Zurich

Hi,
I am going to be working in Zurich on a contract basis for 4 days a week until Xmas. It may be longer than that if my contract is renewed. I will not be living in Zurich, but staying in a hotel for those 4 days and then flying back to the UK. I am a UK citizen and would like to know what I need to do in terms of work permit. I've been told I need to apply for a 90 day permit, but I'm confused as to what happens after that. The only advice I can see is that I need a residence L permit, but I won't be living in Zurich.
Please can someone help as I haven't gotten anywhere with the Swiss Embassy in London.
Thanks in advance
Lhunt

Re: work permit requirements for commuting job in Zurich

You want a Grenzgangerbewilligung (frontalier). But you must go home at least once per week.

Wow thank you for a quick response. Could I just check that this means I don't need to apply for the on line 90 day work permit, I just need a contract of work and proof that I commute home once a week?

You need to file (at Migrationsamt des Kantons Zurich if you work in canton Zurich)
  • this form,
  • evidence that you work in Switzerland such as a work contract (technically this should exceec 90 days),
  • one passport picture, and
  • confirmation from a local authority outside Switzerland that you are resident there. This last part is tricky if you're from the UK or Ireland, as there is no formal registration process there. Evidence that you are on the electoral roll and a council tax bill in your name usually do the trick.

CAVEAT: Frontaliers are subject to Swiss health insurance requirements and may be taxed at source in Switzerland. Get professional advice on that esp. if it is not certain that your contract will be extended beyond 90 days.
