and

http://www.unil.ch/webdav/site/srh/s...s_FNS_2012.pdf

Re: University salary scales in canton of Bern?

The 1st one. I'm a 4th year assistant, so I'm at 68'419.

If you're FNS, it's indeed much much lower.

Where am I contradicting myself exactly?

Edit: if you're FNS you get more at EPFL, if you're an assistant you get more at UNIL. What status do you have on the EPFL doc you linked?

I don't know why you are getting so aggressive.

I can't see the number 68'419 in the first link. The EPFL link only shows PhD students not Assistants but if you look at just the PhD student salaries then EPFL is higher not lower.

In the third link on the page you listed it shows the salary of 68'419...but again that's for assistants. You aren't comparing like with like.

Re: University salary scales in canton of Bern?

This is the one you want for the salaries at UNIL
http://www.unil.ch/webdav/site/srh/s...ants_-2011.pdf

Most assistants get hired at 80% though, so make less than stated here. And as foreigners we all get the "impot a la source" so we don't have to worry about the tax return at the end of the year, but do have less to take home every month.

Re: University salary scales in canton of Bern?

Sorry, I don't feel like I'm being aggressive?

What status have the PhD student on the link you posted? Assistant or FNS-funded?

On this first link you posted from UNIL, you have the salaries for assistants (like me), and down below the salaries for the FNS-funded, which are a good 20k under.

Now, which one corresponds to EPFL? None? What is exactly a PhD student in EPFL? Is it the equivalent of an assitant at UNIL?

Re: University salary scales in canton of Bern?

The link I posted is for the salaries of the PhD's that are funded as "assistant-diplomé". That is the left column. the postdocs are on the right. FNS funded PhD's get less, but get an extra allowance for teaching so their monthly salary is more or less the same as the other PhD's. I am not sure about EPFL, but the people I know there seem to get more than me. This is all department dependent, of course. And if your boss hires you at 100% or 80% makes quite a difference.

The first link I posted is only one page. It only has 3 numbers on it. 40800, 43800, and 46800. These correspond to the EPFL link I post. The EPFL link I posted doesn't even mention assistant.

I was fns for the first three years of my PhD, with a 750.- mensual allowance from UNIL. Now that I'm an assistante diplômée I get about 1000.- more per month! That's huge!
