Re: Have a look at my package: Is this a decent salary for? Zurich

Thank you for your reply. I have been going through the forum for the last 2 hrs and found a lot of useful and not so useful information but presented with a good sense of humor.

This is a very good forum! Merci for the replies!

I think I will be able to survive in Zurich as I am a one person household but enjoy good wine and nice beers that might cut into the CHFs.

Still looking for that swimming pool...

Happy days

This is the main 50 m swimming pool in downtown Zurich which is closed until summer 2012 for renovation.

2. How much does a nice furnished appt. cost? I have looked at the various website and was a little shocked :O( roughly 2500 CHF+
2500 a week is not shocking. That's rather normal...

Welcome to the forum, and welcome to Switzerland. Here are a few posts to get you started.

Is your offer competitive? Read this post: FAQ: A brief guide to salaries in Switzerland

What does it cost to live in Switzerland? Read this post: FAQ: Is CHF100'000 a good salary?

To answer your questions specifically:

1. Yes, it's a competitive salary, particularly if your incentive pay is realistically achievable.
2. Company cars are not normally provided unless you need them to do your job. It sounds as if they're giving you a General Abonnement, so you're expected to use the train to visit customers/contacts.
3. For gyms, try these threads:

http://www.englishforum.ch/sports-fi...ms-zurich.html
http://www.englishforum.ch/sports-fi...ms-zurich.html

And the pool:

http://www.englishforum.ch/sports-fi...ming-pool.html

You'll also find a search button at the top right-hand corner of the page. Most questions have been asked on here before -- that's the best starting point for your research.

Dear Idiot,
Just wanna say that yours help is always on the top!
You are everything but the Idiot

Thank you for all information, they are ALWAYS very usefull and without ironic, in all posts!

All the best!

Re: Have a look at my package: Is this a decent salary for? Zurich

FDM: Next thing to look at is paying the least amount of tax. I think you should look at moving to canton Schwyz... Pfaffikon SYZ/Wilen/Wollerau. 30km from Zurich.

Low tax. You have a good package so you want to try keep as much of it as possible.

What is happing on the sporty side of things besides skiing and winter sports. is anybody a member of a sailing club in Zurich? any recommendations?

As a sporty individual fitness is a very important part of my business and private life. I do not like being a couch potato.

Money is one thing but good sporting facilities like in most German cities are key to my decision to move to Zurich as money only get you so far and nothing beats a good morning swim or run.
For running, you can check out this running group:
http://www.meetup.com/The-Zurich-Hash-House-Harriers/
Though I am not sure how impressed the single women there will be with the size of your package, you can always ask. Its filled with engineers, bankers and SAP or google nerds- if you think you can keep up?

Lane swimming in Switzerland is a dangerous sport, as people do not follow the lanes- a little like driving in Buenos Aires or Bangalore.
I know of a very decent swim teacher- she can help you improve your stroke- increase reach, reduce strokes per length and give you more style.

The gym? Your place of work may even have a subsidised gym membership - ask HR. Though it may be difficult to find the time to get there with what will be expected of you WRT remuneration.

Sailing? Many of the people in the clubs are quite friendly, so just go down and see how it goes about joining. Though I think this is more of a summer sport.

Nuff said.

I have to evaluate your proposal :O) What do you bring to the table?
What do I bring..... hmmm, I was just thinking of taking.

1) I have a toddler/Tasmanian devil if you want exercise, much more effective than a gym,
2) A very small package :O no where as big as yours,in fact it's not a package, it's just a wage (and far too little to live on = <CHF120), but it'll be enough to keep us in beer and whiskey whilst I spend yours on haircuts and beef.
3) Complete DVD sets of Battlestar Galactica, Caprica, Buffy, Angel, Firefly and Dark Angel. If you don't like SciFi how about Soprano's? If you don't like that either.... I may have to rethink.

Considering you'll be earning more than 90% of the forum members, be prepared for a lot of criticism.
I don't think it's envy, it's just that it gets boring to read a similar topic every one or two weeks. Anyway, I found the perfect fix for this, maybe other forum members find it helpful too:

1) At top of the thread click on "Thread tools"
2) Click on "Ignore thread"

Voilá

Back to the topic, it looks like a great salary, good luck in Zurich.

wasn't there a comparison table posted on here recently regarding low tax cantons and salaries, that basically said unless you where earning millions then you wouldn't save anything, once you factor in the higher rents and travel costs etc

Nice first post. Thanks for contributing to this forum in such a constructive way. I hope we can all learn something from the excellent information you've shared with us.
Maybe if he was just off the boat trying to buy something from someone else you'd have been more forthcoming. :rolleyes.
