That sounds wonderful. Always up for something spicy. But not ready for marriage there are too many good restaurants left to visit. And on my current package I could not afford an emmenthal wedding :O)
Does that mean I'm dumped already. :.(

I recently learned that there are also myriads of ways to cook with the same basic ingredient.*

Seriously FDM, in my opinion you will do just fine with that package, whichever one you're referring to. I can't help you with sailing clubs, but definitely I can point you to some fun Social Events involving food worth attending once you are here in Zurich. Good luck, and don't listen to the "haters" - sometimes people are struggling to make ends meet, even in this country, and perceive an honest inquiry as arrogant. Someone once posted - and I completely agree - that these kinds of questions are not really meant to ask "is X enough to survive on?", of course it is enough and you know that, rather "what kind of lifestyle could I expect/hope to live with X in Zurich"?

Thank you. I am looking forward to your 1001 ways to cook a potato :O). The haters make me laugh. In Zurich there is so much money that my salary is tiny in comparison. A small fish in a big lake! But leaves enough room to swim and grow. You get what you want. If you did not get it you did not want it enough

However thanks to this forum I have a good idea what to expect and where to live. Will be looking to live central and enjoy all the wonderful things CH has to offer and improve my CH German. Was funny I understand CH German but do not speak it.

and as they say:

A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him.

And by the looks of things I have plenty of bricks.

On top a commission structure based on revenue. This is a new business intitial revenue grown will be slow for the first months but due to the unique nature of the service/product offered is expected to increase very fast.

Re: Have a look at my package: Is this a decent salary for? Zurich

FDM,

I am bit late and you already know where you stand but just to set the expectations, 150K base salary in Zurich is not very high. It is nominal managerial salary in my experience. The point is you have potential of making 100K in bonus. If I were you, I would in my negotiation go to get a raise on the base and reduce bit on variable to keep the balance.

On a 150K you will have about 10K cash in hand each month and if you buy a decent Car about 1500 a month (incl. car expenses) and decent apartment CHF 2.5K-3K, .5K for insurance. Just eating out with a few beers and normal meal in a pub like Paddy's is over 50-80 CHF (only for you). So I am saying it is not exactly a Jackpot salary as some post and sarcasm on the forum might suggest.

You need to ensure that your bonus is about right and if possible your sales target and disbursement of bonus is semi annual (at least in part).

But there is no question on the survival side. You can have good life and great fun. Sport scene is great. All kind of sports, winters and otherwise. Very international place so you'll find it easy to make buddies.

Re: Have a look at my package: Is this a decent salary for? Zurich

Thank you for the info. The bonus is uncapped and I have a good feeling about this. I prefer a lower base salary and work for the bonus. The bonus motivates me. The basic as always is to pay the bills and buy the fish and chips.

As always more is better but in this case I put the focus on commission as this where the money will be made and hopefully with a lot of hard work this will make my basic look very small and enables me to buy a round of drinks or two :O)

1. Is this a competitive package for Zurich?
It is not a bad salary at all.

However, it is still less than the school fees for my two kids.

All relative I suppose...

Edit: School fees in two years time that is.

yes. i was surprised that bonus would be 2/3 of expected earnings. are there other jobs/industries with this pay structure at this level?

It's not uncommon, in IT and related areas, for base salary to be tiny in comparison to commission and bonuses. When I worked in London, my sales force were getting 80% or 90% of their gross in commission.

thanks. i'd seen some sales people with similar high commissions, but they were earning around 30k in total (london, 8 years ago) not 100k in basic alone.

Wait, UTH talks about humility??? I've had him on ignore for a year, so maybe he's learned the concept.... But I doubt it.

Anyways, those are considered private I think, so they're likely to get deleted from the thread.

It's a little crass to come in here posting salary numbers like that, considering that most of the forum members make much less than that. But Han_solo is right - it's a fairly common manager salary. Nice, but not fabulous. You'll lead a pleasant enough life, though.

You seem very insecure. I guess Zurich is the city where everyone compares each other's packages the only way they can.

Hello veryone,

First of all thank you for the swift replies. I like the Zurichersee as a 50m pool idea. I was recently in Zurich and suggest to wait for a swim until spring time.

As with regard to some of the more immature mails with regards to the contents of the offered package....

“The envious man thinks that if his neighbor breaks a leg, he will be able to walk better himself”

But seriously I have searched the forum, found the various calculators and thank you for sharing the average income of a Swiss peasant family of 4000 CHF does that include the cheap milk and cheese benefits they enjoy? Not forgetting the daily Alphorn concert in the Alps. Holy Emmerthaler I like the sound of that!

I like to enjoy a good life style. I do not want to get trapped by a potential high income and spend 80% on living expenses. I know in Zurich a lot of people earn a lot more and saw that a haircut costs 70 CHF! It made my re evaluate the other living expenses.

Thank you in advance for your answers. And yes I am happy to buy a round of drinks if I decide to accept the offer.

and just to get the fire going :O)

“In life there are no winners, only assholes with Swiss Bank Accounts.”

TFD

PS: Have not got that bank account yet.
Uhhhhh you did`t see mine yet
