A fortunate woman, then, no matter what kind of package we are discussing!

My package is small and shrivelled and really not worth talking about
If it fits into the slot of a mail box, then its much cheaper to Male it

I keep reading what you wrote but I'm not in on the joke. Please explain?
I'm sorry, I'm off-topic and must have appeared flippant to you.

I was kidding about the fact that all non-IT professionals tend not to really understand IT complexities and specializations.
As result, when they must, for whatever reason, evaluate the IT world/professionals etc. they tend to group them together under "computer experts".

On the other hand, IT people really must also make an effort to speak a lingo the rest of the world can understand (which they don't really do, as they feel that UTFM should be sufficient).

And to be even more off-topic (apologies OP)
.. there's a real niche for techies who can explain IT in human terms

I understand now what you mean. Speaking as a physicist turned mathematician turned computer scientist turned software engineer turned system architect turned systems consultant turned management consultant I have always been on the wrong end of any stereotype from this set.

One time a headhunter called me for a consulting role at a new firm. I sent in my CV, which includes a doctorate in astrophysics. The headhunter was instructed to call me back with the message that while my qualifications were impressive, the company could not employ someone who wore black rimmed glasses and sandals and a long pony tail. (They had of course never seen me, but knew this for a fact anyway!)

Re: Have a look at my package: Is this a decent salary for? Zurich

Thank you all for the useful posts and some of the people that have a sense of humor. Thank you! I got the contract and look forward to go appartment hunting in Zurich!

On a side note:

Having browsed the forums here I can see a lot of people (not everyone before someone rants off) comment on CH, the culture, people cost of living etc...

Having been to CH many times I have learned to appreciate the business climate and people. Ch has a lot to offer but is not to everyone liking especially if people do not speak the local language.... And expect everything to be the same as back home... Thank god not everthing in CH is like many things in the Anglophone world

I would not move to a place only for the money. But for the package CHFs only allow to enjoy some things more often :O) like good cheese and wine.

Cannot wait to hit the slopes and go shopping in Milaaaaaano!

THX for the constructive and funny comments.

And to the frustrated folks that moan and groan. You will probably be moaning and groaning years from now. Happy moaning and groaning to you!

:O)

Re: Have a look at my package: Is this a decent salary for? Zurich

My friends know what I make and visa versa. is not a big thing. And thank you for letting me know that CH is small. I would have never guessed that . The more posts I read the more I understand the Swiss and their attitude towards some foreigners .

Will fill in your gaps

Debt: plus minus 8000 euros (credit card from last vacation in Thailand)
Fear: Black slopes learning to ski and a friend once to me down one. I took me 5 hours to get down! Hence the wish to learn to ski properly
Age: 35 (Years) Mentally sometimes 100+ on average 15+ this depends who I talk too.

Happy days and look forward to see you in Zurich soon. We should have a drink

Don't you really see that transparency in your team and transparency on a public forum are two completely different things? And Switzerland is very small, as someone said.

Well, to be honest I really don't care how much money you do. But I do find you very arrogant. You may have lots of money but when you'll come over, you may enjoy to have some friends to spend time with. And this forum is a great place to meet great people. You may don't want to burn your chances to get to know them...

Just sayin'...

What the gentleman obviously did not understand is that:
1) his potential employer could be on the forum
2) in Swiss culture it is absolutely taboo to discuss salaries and/or relocation packages
3) the country is so small that it might not be difficult to figure out the job
4) if point 3 does happen, the new employer might not appreciate it.

Best of luck OP, I really sincerely hope you won't find out the hard way.

We're not your issue, you are

I take on board what you say, but what the hell, if they have made him an offer then the OP wants to know if it is ok. What are the Swiss worried about discussing salaries, at the end of the day everyone has to make a decision of whether they accept an offer of a job or not. The salary should match the market rates for the job, so a package is just that.

Agreed. As a teacher, I have taught in schools where the salary range is published in the staff handbook, or on the school web page - or the front page of newspapers at times. On the other hand, I have also taught at schools where, on being offered a job, I have been requested not to share the salary information with anyone else. Why would that be?

I have just realised the salary divide: those who talk about shopping over the border, meaning the closest French or German supermarket, and those who go to shop in Milaaaaaano!

Slightly off-topic but talking of disclosing gory details, for german speakers http://www.tagesanzeiger.ch/zuerich/...story/29778631

this says that with the arrival of the Glencore crew taxes in Rueschlikon are going down big time. Occupy Rueschlikon and everything, here is where everybody benefits from capitalism, no ?

Maybe that is ok. BTW love the smoking on the station conversation that is going on in the forum LOL.

But ofcourse you need to adapt when you go to another country. That is part of the fun or not .

Having worked in different countries. A lot of companies have salary transparency i.e. job codes etc. This creates healthy competition. As long as you add value there is nothing to be ashamed off. Setting up a company and being an entrepreneur is tough and when people do well I have respect for them as long as they do business with a healthy dose of ethic.

Welcome to the forum.

Considering you'll be earning more than 90% of the forum members, be prepared for a lot of criticism.

And please use the search function to find typical living costs in Switzerland.
Sounds like there could be a good breeding ground for an online version of "Occupy Wall Street" here on EF?

150k is definitely a scheiss-salary. 180k is the new 120k.
Who cares about salary? Just get a line of credit with a bank. If you don't spend now (for instance on a city centre penthouse in Zurich) you'll definately be priced out of the market forever. Best to get leverage in your personal finances just like companies do: get debt from a bank and invest (real estate, Zegna suit, Jaeger LeCoultre, etc.). Live for the now!
