Self Employment protocol?

I wonder if anyone else knows the official line on this.

Recently I've been contracted out by a firm in Reinach to do some editing and writing for them on a consultant-style basis. My question is - what do I need to do for tax purposes?

The company have asked me to invoice them and so I have, but one of the men I'm working with - he's German - wondered if it was like in Germany, where in order to be paid like that by a company you had to be an incorporation.

I have a C permit and I've just finished Uni so this is my first job, and it won't be a very high amount I'm being paid, about 4000 francs for four weeks' work, but I don't know what I need to do about the tax type situation.

Can anyone help?

Re: Self Employment protocol?

I invoice as a sole trader, but others invoice as a GmbH ( seen as more secure by larger client firms ).

See:

Sole proprieter, GmbH, AG: which??

Setup a Sole Proprietorship

Re: Self Employment protocol?

Hi Pumpkinspiced......
As jrspet said, you can issue invoices to the employer.....effectively being self employed. So you need to register for AHV ( social security), federal and kantonal tax as a self employed person. In my experience so far it is very easy.......
I am registering as self employed and was told by the AHV office to wait until i had issued a couple of invoices ( rechnung ) and then to take copies in to them and they would register me... so i did that and am now waiting for my AHV number .
You can carry on working and issuing invoices ( and of course getting paid!) while you wait for your number......
Its quite easy to do all this and everyone has been very helpful so far....my best advice would be to get in touch with your local council and ask them what the procedure is.

good luck!!
