Last tip: From my experience is the "secret" quite simple really: perseverance. Of course can you raise your chances per job by spending a lot of time per application. However, many jobs are today going through some terrible online application systems that don't even allow you to hand in a well formated CV...
Many, but not all.
It's mostly true for large multi-nationals.
Smaller companies sometimes use the services of head-hunters or employment-agencies.
My employer found my CV on the site of one such agency and requested my "dossier" from them.
OK, that was in 2005.

Most of these agencies take your CV (in MS-Word) and format it into their own layout (your "dossier") that they hand out to customers (potential employers)

Absolutely correct. I interviewed with about twenty of those agencies in Switzerland over the years. From this twenty were two really professional (ok, why not drop names: Stamford Consultants were great and the other one was this one... while that headhunter I talked to does not seem to work there anymore). All others wasted my time. Some did so in a way I can understand - large agencies like Michael Page like to have a big DB full of profiles and like to meet you even if they don't have a concrete job. That's ok... but it was in my case an investment of my time that never paid off. Others were exteme time wasters: A lot of the job ads run by agencies are empty place holders - there is no job, they just harvest the CVs sent to them. Some made me drive all the way to Berne or Basel from Zurich for some smalltalk, others were outright unprofessional trying to hardsell the CVs they got through cold calls. The funniest one of all had the cheek to ask me to look for jobs myself, prepare the application and then let them send it on my behalf - because it would be so much easier to land a job when a pro represents you... yeah, right. Because employers LOVE paying an agent some three months salary of yours as a comission...

Bottom line: If you have a job and want to possibly find something better next year is a good agency a sensible approach - let them look for you, maybe it happens, maybe not. But if you want a job NOW... you better do the work on your own.

I have known headhunters who simply forward me links to jobs which they have found on websites.

Ridiculous!

Re: Just lost my job:(

The more approaches you take the more opportunities you have. I have worked with recruitment agencies but it is important to work with one that covers your sector, or better, specialises in your sector. But also look for jobs advertised on general job boards. And perhaps one of the best approaches is to identify companies that do the sort of work you do, find a contact person and send them your CV. In my field English is the main language so an English cover letter and CV is expected. But maybe in your field a more EU type CV is required with personal details and a picture.

What is your field? You never know, maybe someone on here might have some specific leads or advice.

Re: Just lost my job:(

Hello again,
First of all thanks for your support! I started immediately to search for a new job and saved all documents etc.

To get some help when I'm back in Sweden I need a form called E301. Can anyone help me how I get it?

I live in Luzern, if that information is needed...

Re: Just lost my job:(

Thanks again! But right now I'm a bit confused:

If I understand it correctly I need at least to have worked 12 months before I can get this E-301 formular and get some cash?

Bu I just spoke with the swedish authorities and they said that I need this form and even if I don't worked 12 months I can get some reeduced help.

So my question is: Can I get this formular E-301 without working 12 monts?

Sounds to me like a useful service - I'd love to have a personal "google searcher" so I can just sit back and drink a mojito waiting for the output

Re: Just lost my job:(

I try to bump this thread since I soon will have final meeting with HR.

I'm I entitled to the form e-301 if I only worked here for 9 months?

(I'm asking cause when I spoke with the swedish authorities I needed this form when I'm back in Sweden...)

You see... when I posted that you should not waste your time on the RAV unless you have something serious to ask them: That would be something you better ask them than the EF - most definitely not a waste of time if it clarifies if you get support back home or not.

Re: Just lost my job:(

E-301 is simply (or maybe not so simply) a statement of your contributions over the last few years (generally 2). You should still get one no matter how long you have worked here for, what is important is what it says and how that compares with what is needed to get support in Sweden.

Re: Just lost my job:(

Thanks once again for the info, I know I'm writing quite silly questions, but since my german is non existing its hard to understand what the authorities here needs.

But have I understand it correctly if I let my employeer fill in the details in this form:

http://www.treffpunkt-arbeit.ch/date...usfuellbar.pdf

If yes, can they sign it asap or do I have to wait until Mars when my notice expires?
